There was a time when practically everybody either knew somebody who actively playedFarmVilleon Facebook or was that person themselves. For a few years, Zynga’s Flash-based application dominated the games on Facebook, holding the number one spot for over two years, from 2009 to 2011. So whenZynga announced thatFarmVilleandFarmVille 2would be shutting downwhen Facebook stopped support for Flash games in December 2020, many dedicated fans were disappointed. But Zynga assured players that the company would developFarmVille 3for mobile.
FarmVillewas truly a social phenomenon when it debuted on Facebook and Microsoft’s MSN Games in 2009. At the peak of its popularity, it reached nearly 35 million daily active users, spurring the release of a briefly available mobile version of the game in 2010 andFarmVille 2in 2012. The games were so popular that they featured in-game partnerships with a number of major companies like McDonald’s, 7-Eleven, Farmers Insurance, and even Lady Gaga. AndFarmVilleis a 2021 candidate for entry into the National Museum of Play’s Video Game Hall of Fame.

Zynga has released a “sneak peak” trailer forFarmVille3, which will be released on mobile at an as-yet unannounced date.FarmVille 3will allow players to build a farm from scratch, grow crops, and keep a variety of animals. The game will feature the new ability to breed and nurture baby animals from more than 150 unique varieties, including everything from horses and pigs to alpacas and arctic foxes. Additional information about the game will hopefully be forthcoming as launch day approaches.
Zynga currently offers a game calledFarmVille 3 – Animalson theGoogle Play Store for Androidand the App Store for iOS. It is not clear how this differs fromFarmVille 3, but inFarmVille 3 – Animalsplayers can breed, raise, and sell a variety of animals in order to raise funds for improvements and expansion of their farm. The game features hundreds of decorations, buildings, and even outfits for hired farmhands. These farmhands consist of a range of specialized workers like lumberjacks and cooks who can be leveled up to unlock new skills and recipes.
There are also a couple ofFarmVille 2games available on mobilefor those fans who need something on their phones to tide them over until the official release ofFarmVille 3.WithFarmVille 2: Country Escape, an internet connection isn’t even required, allowing players to enjoy the game anywhere. Players can also join a farm co-op in order to trade with friends.FarmVille 2: Tropical Escapetakes would-be farmers to an island getaway, where they’ll be able to raise unique tropical crops and exotic animals, learn recipes for fun holiday drinks, and manage an inn located right on the beach.
