Summary

A fan ofThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomhas built an incredible machine that resembles a flying dragon. Thanks to a slew of new powers and tools,Tears of the Kingdomhas opened the door for players to solve any problem by building a device that can circumvent anything the game throws at them. Or, as is the case with the flying dragon machine, just build wild, imaginative machines simply because they can.

Tears of the Kingdomaccomplishes this goal by giving players an ability called Ultrahand early in the game. Ultrahand lets Link lift nearly any object in the game and then attach it to another. Using Zonai devices, which are artifacts left behind by an ancient civilization that plays a key role in the game’s story, players can build pretty much anything, from killer mechsto an X-Wing fighter from theStar Warsuniverse.

A player might even feel inclined to make a mechanical flying dragon to mock the actual dragons flying through the skies of Hyrule. That’s exactly what one player who goes by the name GoneRad did. GoneRad posted their creation on theTears of the Kingdomsubreddit. In the video they posted, they’re flying their impressive flying machinebeside the fire dragon Dinraalthat patrols the skies above the northeastern portion of Hyrule. GoneRad’s flying device soars near Dinraal, parodying the dragon’s majestic slither across the sky with an awkward jerky bob.

GoneRad’s dragon is mostly made up of a series of Zonai Fans stuck together at different angles that provide its dragon-like movement. There are two sets of “wings” on the front end of the device that provide stability and forward propulsion. GoneRad mentions in the comments that toget the signature dragon-like movement, it wasn’t enough to simply position the fans at different angles. They strategically placed two Zonai Portable Pots within the body that, when positioned correctly, act like joints that make the sections they’re attached to bend slightly. For some added flair, GoneRad added attached some Shards of Dinraal’s Spike to the body and stuck a Zonai Flame Emitter to the front to simulate Dinraal’s flame.

There really is no limit to what players can do with the toolset offered byTears of the Kingdom. While some build simple devices to get from one place to another with relative ease, others are showing off bycrafting things like space elevatorsthat are self-propelled by a series of rockets that slide into place on a conveyor belt. It’s just a matter of how much creativity a player has in them. Having an engineering degree probably also helps.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis available now for Nintendo Switch.
