Fans eagerly waiting for more news on Nintendo’s follow-up toThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildfinally got a better look at the game during Nintendo’s presentation at the end of E3 2021. While the trailer did not give away too much aboutThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild’s sequel, some find have been analyzing it to get as much information as possible.
The trailer came right at the end of the Nintendo Direct broadcast, and it did not show a whole lot of the game. It did, however, hint thattime travel would play a large role inThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, which could play a sizable role in the fanbase’s new theory.

The theory comes from Barrett Courtney, a member of the YouTube channel Kinda Funny, who tweeted a thread laying out his theory that players will take control of Ganondorf instead of Link in the upcoming title. Courtney also says that he thinks that Ganondorf is the hero from 10,000 years before referenced inThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. He theorizes that this is whyThe Legend of Zelda: Skyward Swordis coming to the Switchinstead of any of the many other popular titles from the series' past, as playing as Ganondorf in the sequel could tie the sequel withSkyward SwordandBreath of the Wild.
Fans in the comments have also voiced some support for the theory using details that they picked up in the trailer as well. A rather large one is that the robe Link appears to be wearing in the trailer matches Ganondorf’s almost exactly. Courtney also says that this theory may very well be why Nintendo iswaiting to revealThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2’s official title. Nintendo has said that the title is very important, and Courtney believes that the title will give away that the players are playing as Ganondorf, which Nintendo wants to keep hidden for as long as possible.
Of course, there is no way to know whether or not Courtney’s theory is true until more is known about the game, but there is definitely a lot of evidence out there supporting his ideas. Games fromThe Legend of Zeldado all connect and share a timeline, so if Courtney’s theory is correct the newest entry in the series could play a massive role in developing Ganondorf’s backstory. WithThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2releasing sometime next year, hopefully, fans do not have much longer to wait to get some more information on what to expect.
