Summary
Naoki Yoshida, theFF14andFF16lead producer who’s better known by his alias Yoshi P, commented on the long-rumoredFinal Fantasy 9remake that’s reportedly in development. Though Square Enix hasn’t provided official word on the existence of such a game, more and more claims from insiders have piled up in recent years alleging that theFinal Fantasy 9remake is indeed real. Yoshi P’s latest statements may not verify the reports from these leaks and rumors, but they do clear some things up regarding the potential development of this unannounced title.
As a 24-year-old game,Final Fantasy 9hasn’t aged the best compared to its RPG contemporaries. Though the title did receive a remaster of sorts that launched on modern platforms in the late 2010s, it obviously didn’t satisfy the demands of those who wantedFF9to receive a complete glow-up. As such, whenrumors about aFinal Fantasy 9remakestarted popping up in late 2021, they piqued the interest of many fans of the franchise. After all, seeing the ninth installment of the famed JRPG series get the same treatment that Cloud Strife and company got in theFF7remakes would be a dream come true for many gamers. Unfortunately, though, it still isn’t clear if the game exists or not. At the very least, however, one Square Enix developer did have some statements to make about the rumored remake.

As noted by Reddit user MKlby1998 in a post they made on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit, Yoshi P reportedly commented on theFF9remake rumors in the latestFinal Fantasy 14Letter from the Producer livestream. In the video, Yoshida alleged that he has no involvement in any sort ofFinal Fantasy 9remake, contrary to widespread speculation. He then stated that if such a game does exist, it would likely be a big project, possibly even more thantheFF7remake trilogy. If this is indeed the case, this would contradict some of therecentFinal Fantasy 9remake leaks, which pointed towards the game having a smaller budget and scope compared toFF7 RemakeandRebirth.
Yoshi P Denies Claims That Final Fantasy 9 Remake Is in Development at His Studio
Yoshi P went on to set the record straight about another rumor, as well. Some recent reports have quotedtheFinal Fantasy 16produceras saying that his lead team, Creative Studio 3, was working on two projects that would be announced soon, but it seems that this was apparently a mistranslation. According to Yoshida, he never said that the “multiple” projects CS3 is working on would be revealed in the near future.
Something else that Yoshi P didn’t say, however, was any comment onthe rumoredFinal Fantasy Tacticsremaster, which, according to reputable insider Jason Schreier, is indeed real and is actively in the works at Creative Studio 3. So, even if Yoshi P isn’t helming the development of a potentialFinal Fantasy 9remake, fans of Square Enix’s flagship franchise will likely still have a lot to look forward to from theFF14andFF16producer’s studio.
