Xbox boss Phil Spencer reveals the “corny” thing that he and the team does to remember to give fans what they want. Spencer’s statement comes not long after he confirmed that theXbox Series X will have thousands of launch titlesbecause of backward compatibility, a feature that fans had asked for.
Speaking toGame Informer, Spencer said that features such as backward compatibility and Xbox Play Anywhere “come from listening to the customers. However, Spencer and theXboxteam don’t just send out question forms like some companies, they also have meetings with an empty chair at the table which represents Xbox fans.

The publication writes that Spencer knows this is “a bit corny” and it has also been mocked by some on social media. One person asked if fans should be getting paid if they’re at these meetings and another said that they are going to use the empty chair as a defense of why they always eat alone in public. One also said that the empty chair doesn’t represent them but a chair that asks for anewBanjo-Kazooiegamedoes.
There have been some positive responses to what Spencer said and many fans are glad to see that the Xbox team is listening to their ideas. After fans complained that there weren’t many Xbox exclusives, Microsoft did go out and purchase several game developers to help make its first-party content releases better. 2019 seems like it could be a strong year for Xbox fans with developers like Obsidian Entertainment creatingGrounded, Ninja Theory’sBleeding Edge, and the unannounced games from these companies.
The loading time of games has also been a major issue for gamers. Gamers often say that they’ve run out of room on their Xbox One hard drives and services such as Xbox Game Pass have added to that. Games getting bigger has also meant that they’ve begun to take longer to load. TheXbox Series X aims to get rid of load timesand its SSD will hopefully fix the issue of storage space and long loading screens.
Microsoft hasn’t fully revealed all of its plans for the Xbox Series X. The console’s price and other launch titles will also be important to Xbox fans but from what Spencer is saying here, Microsoft is thinking hard about how to give fans what they want.
