Even though there will benoWWE 2K21, WWE fans can still expect a new WWE video game to release this year. 2K has confirmed theWWE 2K Battlegroundsrelease date to be September 18 with an action-packed new trailer that shows off gameplay as well as reveals plenty of new wrestlers for the roster.
WhenWWE 2K Battlegroundswas originally announced, it only confirmed Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, John Cena, The Rock, and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin for the roster. However, the new trailer has many more superstars on display. TheWWE 2K Battlegroundsroster has grown to include Andre the Giant, Asuka, Braun Strowman, “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt, Daniel Bryan, Kofi Kingston, Nikki Bella, Roman Reigns, Ronda Rousey, Sasha Banks, Sgt. The newWWE 2K Battlegroundstrailer also reiterates that players will have to deal with more than just other wrestlers in the game. During the women’s match with Asuka,Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella, and Sasha Banks, a goat enters the ring and starts attacking the players. Elsewhere, we can see a wrestler being thrown to a hungry alligator. It looks like many of the unique arenas have gimmicks like this, and it will be interesting to see all the zany ideas the developers have come up with.
Initial fan reaction toWWE 2K Battlegroundswas pretty negative, but it seems as though this latest trailer is actually winning some people over. At the time of this writing, the trailer has 4.8 thousand likes versus just 658 dislikes on YouTube. However, the comment section for the trailer is a lot more negative, with some commenters stating that they can’t believeWWE 2K Battlegroundsis a paid retail release as opposed to a free-to-play game.
It seems many fans are still bitter about the disaster that wasWWE 2K20, a game that released in a broken state and earned scathing reviews from critics, to the point that it’s quite possibly the worst-reviewed wrestling game of all time. WhileWWE 2K Battlegroundsis looking to provide a much different, more cartoonish experience, it would still be surprising to see it be as poorly-received asWWE 2K20.
WWE 2K Battlegroundslaunches on September 18 for PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One.
