World of Warcraft’sin-game maps have a definitive and iconic style that makes them instantly recognizable. Reddit user andWorld of Warcraftfan Spoon has taken that iconic style and applied it to real-life locations to create Azeroth-style maps of southern Ontario, Sicily, and Veneto.
Spoon was able tomimic the style of theWorld of Warcraftmapsby replicating brushes and assets using Adobe Photoshop. While they pulled many assets directly from the game’s existing maps, plenty others were found or created just for this project.

The maps themselves would fit in perfectly among themany zones ofWorld of Warcraft. They included all of the major towns, highways, and landmarks in each of the regions. Spoon even created unique icons to represent certain major cities and their iconic landmarks, like Verona’s famous Arena and Toronto’s CN Tower, all of which imitate the style of iconicWorld of Warcraftcities like Stormwind and Orgrimmar.
Spoon shared their firstWarcraft-style map a couple of months ago–a rendering of the continent of Australia. Hilariously, they rendered the Land Down Under in the same style as Outland, thebroken remains of Draenor added inBurning Crusade. Their map of Australia got even more attention than their more recent works, though that could change if Spoon gets more eyes on their hard work.
Transforming real-life locations intoWarcraftzones is a tradition that has been gaining more and more popularity and attention over the years. Fellow cartography enthusiast and artistConservationOfWumbo has made over a dozenWarcraftmapsof different states from the US, and plans on recreating all 50 eventually. Other artists have pitched in as well, such as Winston-91, who created a map of the Netherlands in a similar style to ConservationOfWumbo and Spoon.
World of Warcraftfans past and present always love to see the creativity of other fans showcased through art like this. Fans of Spoon’s work were quick to compliment them, showering the comment sections with jokes, suggestions for future regions to work with, and walkthroughs on how they made the maps in the first place. With all of the work done by Spoon and otherWorld of Warcraftfans and artists, a fair handful of regions across the world have been turned intoWarcraftzones. Eventually, perhaps players will be able to piece together an entire map of Earth in the same style as those found withinWorld of Warcraft.
