ThoughWarcrafthas a history nearly 30 years long, withWorld of Warcraftaround for almost 20 of them, few things are as recognizable in the universe as the Dark Portal. The magical monument has played a huge role in many stories throughout the game’s history and has been featured prominently on the login screens for VanillaWorld of Warcraftand two of its expansions.

Now, Redditor andWorld of Warcraftfan FemKitsu has created this legendary landmark inMinecraft. Designing and building the Dark Portal took them about four days off and on, which is impressive considering it was done by hand. FemKitsu didn’t import anything into the game to do this; they merely used old concept art as a reference for the massive gate and sculpted it freestyle. The structure looks almost exactly like theDark PortalWorld of Warcraftplayers can find in the game.
Interestingly enough, there are actually three Dark Portals inWorld of Warcraft–one on Azeroth, one on Outland, and another on alternate Draenor. FemKitsu’s portal doesn’t use the smaller design of the Azeroth portal and has the red magic seen in theWarlords of Draenorversion. However, old artfrom the discontinuedWorld of Warcraft Trading Card Gameshowed the Dark Portal with a crimson gate, rather than the green one fromBurning Crusade, meaning it was likely their reference–especially since the accompanying statues are wielding staves instead of swords like the in-game model.
Many fans love FemKitsu’s work. Seeing the towering monument inMinecraftreminded them of when theyfirst playedWorld of Warcraft: Burning Crusadeand brought back memories of crossing through the Dark Portal for the first time. The Reddit post sharing the image got hundreds of upvotes in less than a day.
FemKitsu does not have a lot of other publicMinecraftbuilds, but they have made a custom Japan-inspired TARDIS inspired byDoctor Who.World of Warcraft, on the other hand, has a plethora ofMinecraftdesigns from tons of fans. Players haverecreatedWorld of Warcraftlocations like the End Times dungeon, Stormwind, and Elysian Hold usingMinecraft’s Creative mode. With some players having made staggeringly immense builds over the years, it would not be surprising if someone eventually remade all of Azeroth inMinecraftsomeday.
