In 2014,Capcom releasedResident Evil 4: Ultimate HD Editionon the PCvia Steam, and was technically a high-resolution version. Due to this, theResident Evil 4 HD Projectteam decided to take matters into their own hands and started developing the mod that took eight years to make.
It took nearly a decade for theResident Evil 4 HD Projectto come to fruition, mainly because ofthe excruciating detail the team embarked onto upgrade the existing version of the game to true HD. According to the two main creators of the project, the team had to retrace Capcom’s footsteps by visiting locations that inspired the game, such as the Raglan Castle in Wales and the Palau Güell in Barcelona. The creators took high-resolution photos of the same textures used in the original game on those locations.
Upon collecting the necessary photographs, the team scrapped most of the textures in the existing version ofResident Evil 4and re-created them from scratch. The team also underwent the excruciating process of analyzing the original textures to ensure that the new ones match. Given this, it is exciting to see all the changes implemented in theResident Evil 4 HD Project.
