Keeping his face hidden was one of the main reasons that Dream became so well-known onYouTube, though other factors certainly contributed to this. A multitude of people were curious as to who the mysterious man was, though some had to wait almost 10 years to find out. Unfortunately, the face reveal did not go as planned, and eight months later the video was removed from his YouTube channel.

Dream Thinks His Face Reveal Was Good

Dream stated that wearing the iconic mask was not actually his idea in the first place and was conceived by fans. He said he was sent a mask to his PO box in lieu of fan art drawn by his community. Previously, he hadn’t used a webcam on stream and instead chose to play games without a camera on. It was adoxxing similar to Corpse Husbandthat occurred in January 2021 that eventually prompted the mask removal in 2022.

Dream’s face reveal saw over 1.5 million peoplewatching when it premiered, which doesn’t include the content creators who streamed it to share their own reactions. Soon after the stream ended, “he’s ugly” began trending on Twitter and the YouTuber began to face a lot of criticism over his appearance. It seems some people were disappointed that the once faceless creator didn’t align with how they thought he should look.

By June 2023,Dream’s mask had returned, and he released a new video to explain that he would be scrubbing images and videos of his face from the internet. This included a collaborative video with Mr. Beast that had performed well. Not only did the content creator swear to wear the mask in future videos, but he took it one step further by claiming that he would be wearing it in public, “at McDonald’s or any place I need to go”.

In an interview with fellow YouTubers Colin and Samir, titled “An Unfiltered Conversation with Dream” the creator sat down to explain his feelings on the matter. When asked if he regretted his decision to take off the mask, Dream said, “I definitely don’t regret the face reveal. I feel to me, it’s like in order to live my life I feel like I had to do the face reveal”.

The podcast is nearly two hours in length, but covers in-depth how important Dream believes the mask to be and why he wanted to eliminate IRL content such as his Antarctica vlog. To clear up confusion as to why he is choosing to wear the mask again, he explained “I’m fine with being Clay and Dream, but I want to know that when I’m Dream, I’m Dream”. To further his point, he drew comparisons to Peter Parker and Spider-Man and the different roles that one person can play when wearing a mask.

Whether Dream will share his face with the world again in the future, onYouTubeor elsewhere, is still to be seen. It would appear that currently, theMinecraftcontent creator doesn’t have any plans to do so. Instead, he is focusing onevolving the Dream SMP, creating music, and streaming on Twitch.
