Summary

TheResident Evilfranchise is back and bigger than ever before. WhileResident Evilhas remained pretty popular since its very debut back in 1996, there was definitely a moment there in the 2010s where it dipped a little, likely due to the disappointing release ofResident Evil 6. But withResident Evil 7’s triumphant return to form in 2017, the franchise has only seen growth, finding a perfect balance of nostalgia and originality thanks to its new release schedule that cycles between excellent sequels and incredible remakes.

2023 has been a pretty strong year all round forResident Evil. Back in March, theResident Evil 4 Remakesomehow managed to not only meet its absurdly high expectations, but exceed them in numerous ways. Then later on in the year,Resident Evil Village’s VR modeput an enthralling twist on an already great entry. And though it wasn’t all that well received by critics, theResident Evil: Death Islandmovie was a fun little cherry on top of an excellent 2023 for theResident Evilfranchise. While Capcom doesn’t currently have any concreteResident Evilplans laid out for 2024, it could still end up being an exciting year for fans.

Capcom Could Reveal Resident Evil 9 in 2024

While it hasn’t been officially confirmed yet in any capacity,Resident Evil 9is one of the industry’s worst-kept secrets right now. After the great success ofResident Evil 7,Village, and the recent remakes,Resident Evil 9was already pretty much guaranteed, and over the last few years, a vast number of leaks and rumors have all pointed towards its existence, along with positing thatChris Redfield may returnas the main playable protagonist once more.

Of course, all leaks and rumors should be taken with a big pinch of salt, and fans won’t know for sure thatResident Evil 9is coming until Capcom announces it officially. Thankfully though, thatResident Evil 9announcement could be right around the corner. Thelast mainlineResident Evilsequelreleased back in 2021, andResident Evil 7released back in 2017, seemingly suggesting that a four-year development cycle is standard for these entries. Currently, the word on the rumor-filled street is thatResident Evilwon’t release a remake in 2024, though that doesn’t mean that an announcement could be off the table. Much likeResident Evil 9,the nextResident Evilremakecould be announced in 2024 and scheduled for a 2025 release window.

Regardless of when the nextResident Evilis announced, once it is, fans can pretty much assume that it’ll release a year later.Resident Evil 7was first announced in June 2016 and released in January 2017,Villagewas announced in June 2020 and came out in May 2021, and even the most recentResident Evil 4 Remakewas announced in June 2022 and released in March 2023.
