Marvel’s Avengersfans waited a long time for Spider-Man’s debut, with the PlayStation exclusive character being announced before the game even launched. Now, over a year later, he is fully playable, with players able to web up AIM bots to their hearts’ content. While there are problems with the latest character that was added to the game, there are also some good things about theMarvel’s Avengersversion of Spider-Man.
While nearly every fan of the wall-crawler will agree thatInsomniac’s take on the characteris superior, there are still some things thatMarvel’s Spider-Man 2can learn fromMarvel’s Avengers. While the hero’s lackluster web swinging is an obvious thing to avoid, there are two specific things that are worthy of praise: his interactions with other heroes and some of his over-the-top abilities.

Marvel’s Avengers Nails Peter’s Interactions With Other Heroes
WhileMarvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man DLC lacks story missions, it does feature a few cutscenes where the hero interacts with members of The Avengers. His first meeting with the group, for example, sees him sharing a lovely conversation with Kamala about secret identities. Before that, he smashes onto the glass of the Helicarrier, something that clearly shows Spidey’s silly side – an aspect of the character that would be fun to see more of inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Whenever players enterMarvel’s Avengers’ elevators, Spider-Man gets to converse with the other heroes, something that allows fans to get more insight into his relationships with the superhero team. A particularly good bit of dialogue sees Spidey talking toCaptain Americaabout their favorite places to eat in New York, while another sees Iron Man trying to convince Peter to let him borrow his web shooters. Thor and Spidey can be heard talking about lifting Mjonir in another conversation, too. These lighthearted exchanges are worth pulling from when Peter is fighting alongside Miles Morales in theMarvel’s Spider-Mansequel. Making sure that the two heroes are quipping back and forth while they fight crime will be important, as having dead air during their team-ups would be wasted potential.

Marvel’s Avengers Is Not Afraid To Get Silly With Spidey’s Moveset
Another strength ofMarvel’s Avengers’ Spider-Man DLC is his lineup of abilities, particularly his ultimate. Wrecking Ball sees Spidey making a massive ball of webs and slamming it into the ground, with the explosion dealing damage and webbing up every enemy in the surrounding area. A similar ability could be a lot of fun to see inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, and it could function similarly to theWeb Blossom Suit Powerfrom the original game.
Another power that is worth bringing over totheMarvel’s Spider-Manseriesis also tied to Wrecking Ball, and it sees Peter webbing up his hands and feet after the ultimate ability is activated. Once this is done, every punch and kick Spidey lands adds the web status effect to enemies, letting players web foes up with each punch and kick. A similar Suit Power is easy to imagine forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, and many fans would likely be eager to give it a try if it was added.
While it is important to keep the main abilities for Peter and Miles grounded and balanced, the unlockable Suit Powers have been a good way to give the characters some more absurd abilities. That should not change in the sequel, asMarvel’s Avengers’ take on the character shows that ridiculous moves can make combat a lot more fun. IfMarvel’s Spider-Man 2makes sure to nail the banter between its twoSpider-peopleand continues to add some unexpected powers for the heroes, it should have no problem meeting fans’ lofty expectations.
Marvel’s Avengersis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.Marvel’s Spider-Man 2is scheduled to release in 2023 on PS5.
