It’s no surprise, then, to see PS Plus’ streak of launching brand new games day-and-date with the service is continuing into June as well. Following a leak earlier in the week, Sony has finally confirmed that Clever Play’sOperation: TangowilljoinStar Wars SquadronsandVirtual Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdownon June 1. PS5 owners on the lookout for their next cooperative multiplayer fix should definitely be keeping this game on their radar.
A Co-op Spy Adventure
Operation: Tangois a cooperative online spy adventure game, that challenges two players to work together in sync to complete an assortment of heist-style missions. A heavy emphasis has been placed on the fact that communication is essential to getting the most out of the experience. Set against the backdrop of a high-tech inspired near-future setting, each of the game’s maps also look set to offer a wide array of individual obstacles for players to overcome. From the handful of gameplay trailers released thus far, there appears to be plenty of reasons why these concepts have already earned the game praise via the2020 Gamescom ‘Best Multiplayer’ award.
The tagline ‘It Takes Two To Save The Universe’ in particular, also hints at the importance of the two distinct classes players will have the chance to play as; Hacker and Agent, each having a unique yet vital role to play. Both playstyles have a different perspective on the chaotic action, that should make the game unlikeany other multiplayer experience currently available on the PS5. While the hacker is in charge of tasks like cracking doors and monitoring surveillance, the Agent on the other hand will be responsible for the teams direct performance in the field itself.

Pioneered by other beloved cooperative games likeHazelight’sIt Takes Two,Operation: Tangowill take full advantage of the Friend Pass concept to allow players to play with their friend of choice. The option to undertake espionage-themed missions via crossplay, is another welcome and progressive option that should allow would-be spies to set up sessions regardless of platform difference, without too many limitations. With “Friendly Banter” being advertised as one of the game’s features, having partner options is a wise and positive development decision.
The Developers Behind Operation: Tango
Canada-based developer Clever Plays has already managed to claw out some success with the studio’s previous game, which bodes well for the promisingOperation: Tango. In 2015 the studio launchedLeap of Faith, a cyberpunk-inspired roguelite on PS4, before porting the game to PC a year later via Steam.
As it standsLeap of Faithhas an overall ‘Very Positive’ rating on Valve’s storefront, based on 286 reviewers having enjoyed their time with it. Launching on PS Plus has historically donegames likeFall GuysandRocket Leaguea world of good when it comes to success and exposure. There’s a chance that Operation: Tango will be making more headline news if it’s blend of ideas are as exciting in practice as they are on paper.
Operation: Tangowill available on PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S from the 1st of June.
