WandaVisionproved to be a big hit when it premiered on the Disney+ streaming service early last year. Week to week, fans were coming up with theories to explain the strange goings-on in the show, with many praising it as one of the most unique and original MCU entries to date. However, a new video claims thatWandaVisionmay not be quite as original as it seemed on the surface, accusing the series of ripping off the plot ofPokemon 3: The Movie.
Pokemon 3: The Moviewas the third feature-lengthPokemonfilm. The plot saw a young girl named Molly, whose father mysteriously disappears. Molly comes in contact withUnown, who use their abilities to “help” Molly by encasing her home and the town of Greenfield in crystal. The Unown also help Molly deal with the grief of her father’s disappearance (in reality he was transported to another dimension while researching the Unown) by creating an Entei for her.

The video, uploaded by TikTok user nerdshype, points out that this plot has many similarities toWandaVision. Equating Molly to Wanda, nerdshype points out thatWandaVisionseesthe town of Westviewcut off from the outside world in a manner not unlike what happens to Greenfield inPokemon 3: The Movie, albeit with a magic forcefield instead of crystal. Wanda and Molly are both dealing with grief, with Wanda “resurrecting” her dead husband Vision, which nerdshype equates to Molly’s father being represented by Entei. Nerdshype goes as far as to point how Molly communicates with the outside world using a TV, not unlike how Wanda communicates with SWORD in the series.
While the video is interesting, it should be pointed out thatWandaVisiontakes direct inspiration from Marvel comic books that far predatePokemon 3: The Movie. The show takes plot points and beats fromThe Vision and The Scarlet Witchcomics as well as various other comic book series from the 1980s. So while there may be similarities betweenPokemon 3: The MovieandWandaVision, it’s almost certainly a coincidence.
In any case, those who were invested inWandaVisionshould note that the story is set to continue in the very near future. Wanda, as The Scarlet Witch, will be featured prominently in theupcomingDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessfilm, which is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 6 as the next installment in the MCU.
