Valheim’s building system has led to a long series of impressive creations shared by its players. Through gathering wood and stone, players can build nearly any type of structure with only one catch:Valheimrequires structural stability. These realistic limits have been the cause of some headaches for players and, in the latest example of this, one player shared the heartbreak of creating a bridge before unlocking the Longship in the game.

Valheimwas released in 2021, and the game combines Norse mythology and Viking culture within an open world. While players do have to manage survival mechanics in this game, it also has a building mechanic that allows players to build structures and defenses to make their lives easier.

This post comes from u/Jusblazm, and it is immediately relatable for anyone who hasbuilt complex creations inValheim.Through this single image, the player shows off a bridge they made that crosses a river in the Meadows biome. While the structure is well-supported, features stone foundations, and reaches across this body of water perfectly, there is one clear issue: it isn’t tall enough. Stuck on one side of bridge is this player’s Longship. This is the largest vessel in the game, and its single mast reaches just high enough to hit the top of the bridge - ensuring that it is unable to move underneath. As the game requires players to transport metals the old-fashioned way, this hurdle must have been a frustrating realization.

Though this seems like an avoidable error, the Longship’s recipe requires materials not accessible untilValheim’s Swamp biome. Therefore, players who are playing the game for the first time likely won’t know the height requirement for this vessel until they have already built numerous structures. Fortunately, u/Jusblazm should be able to adjust this structure without having to tear it down completely since they just need about an extra foot in height.

While it can be frustrating thatValheim’s building system requires structures to be stable, it also makes building complex structures more impressive. Having to understand how to support each section of a build, make sure there are enough materials, and balance the overall look with the need for structural help just adds to the challenge.

Then again, having to factor in proper support beams for each building that players create can be too much for some players - especially when they dwell in a world filled with mythical creatures and special abilities. Either way, this player shows off a moment for which mostValheimplayers can easily have sympathy.
