Ubisoft’s mysterious open-worldStar Warsgame could arrive sooner than many fans have predicted, at least according to a new rumor. While EA has been the primary publisher of newStar Warsvideo games since 2015, Lucasfilm has since announced that it would be working with other triple-A companies on interactive adventures sent in the fabled galaxy far, far, away. One of the first projects to come in the wake of this is anopen-world title developed by Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment- the studio largely known for its work onThe Divisionseries.

Very few official details about this Ubisoft-publishedStar Warstitle have surfaced since it was announced back in early 2021, but it is said to be drastically different from Massive’s past projects. Currently dubbed “Project Helix,” this new game will reportedly allow players to explore theStar Warsgalaxy using a mix of vehiclesfrom the movies and brand-new ones. Recent rumors have compared the game world to the one found inNo Man’s Sky, and playtesters were reportedly hired in December to help with the project.

There is currently no release date for Project Helix, but a new rumor suggests that it could be launching as early as next year. However, everyone involved seems optimistic about the game being Ubisoft’s next big hit, and it will most likely launch in the next fiscal year between April 2024 and March 2025. So far, Ubisoft itself has declined to comment on these claims.

It’s no secret that Ubisoft has struggled to get triple-A releases out over the past year, with the publisher’s only major titles for 2022 beingMario + Rabbids Sparks of HopeandJust Dance 2023.Ubisoft Singapore’s pirate simulatorSkull and Boneswas initially set to launch this year, but was delayed until some unspecified time between 2023 and 2024.Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which is said to have inspired Ubisoft to pursue work on aStar Warsgame, was originally going to be released last year before being held back for 2023.
