Jerma’s Recent Big-budget Streams
It can be said that Jerma’s big-budget streams first permeated the mainstream discourse of Twitch with his well-received “Doll House” streams in August 2021. Taking place over the course of three streams, the Doll House event acted as an interactive live-actionSimsexperience, in which Jerma himself acted as a Sim completely under control by the viewing audience, who would influence the stream through a series of voting polls.
The chat’s influence on the stream included how Jerma would dress, how he would interact with other characters who were often played by guest-starring streamers, and what needs Jerma would have control over such as showering and eating. The Doll House event was an extremely bold and ambitious set of streams, taking place within a sitcom style set of a house that could also be expanded and furnished by the chat once enough currency had been amassed by Jerma.
More recently, Jerma streamed a live-action baseball match between two fictional teams, the California Circus and the Maryland Magicians. The two teams were comprised of professional clowns and magicians respectively, who would perform circus tricks and magic on the field during play to make for extremely entertaining viewing. As well as this, the managers of the two teams had a series of “power up” cards that they could use at any time to change the tide of the game, with Jerma acting as the official umpire. With two live commentators and TV-quality transitions and overlays, the baseball stream is another recent example of Jerma’s unique and successful big-budget stream events.
The High Bar Set By Jerma985
It is very telling that these types of big-budget event streams have not yet been replicated by other streamers, despite the clear levels of success that they have brought for Jerma985. Simply put, the quality and reception of these event streams by Jerma may have been too grand for otherpopular Twitch creatorsto attempt, or perhaps other entertainers just don’t find them practical.
Whileother streamers like Ludwigare renowned for hosting online collaborative events and streams with a cast of high-profile streamers, the kind of dedicated and in-person streams that have been hosted by Jerma have yet to really be tried on other channels. Another contributing factor to this could very well be that these kinds of events simply require too much planning, funding, effort, and organization to effectively execute. With Jerma himself claiming that he hosts event streams primarily from a place of passion for entertainment as opposed to success or financial gain, the risk to reward ratio of carrying out these kinds of events may simply be too large for these kinds of streams to become commonplace onTwitch.
