As Activision’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfarecontinues to receive updates, it appearsCall of Duty 2020may be announced at any time.Call of Duty 2020is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, the studio that helped createCall of Duty: Warzonewith Infinity Ward, and teasers for the upcoming title have been appearing all throughout the free-to-play battle royale.

TheseCall of Duty: Warzoneteasers have been coded messages in Russian, and other similar hints towardCall of Duty 2020’s supposed Cold War setting — in fact, the game is believed to be calledCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Today, Treyarch began hinting at the relevance of a fan-favoriteBlack Opsmap, Summit, by changing its official banner photo on Twitter into a picture of a misty mountain range.

It is currently unclear whether this image is implying Summit will have a greater significance inCall of Duty 2020, or even if it means the map will return for that upcoming title. However, last weekActivision sent out mysterious crates to itsCall of Dutypartners, and now that they have officially been opened it seems the reference to Summit is actually a clue for solving the puzzle inside.

Within each crate is a 1950s-era slide projector.Call of Dutynews site Charlie Intel reported over Twitter that it received 10 slides to examine, while other content creators have gotten different sets. Over the last few hours, it was found that the Summit map inCall of Duty: Black Ops 4was updated and now displays images corresponding with alphabet ciphers, thus providing coded messages like “TURN,” “ELEVATOR,” and “WHEN.”

While those words are the most recent discoveries made via the projector slides as of this writing, according to Charlie Intel’s Twitter feed, the crates have offered fans a lot more to dig through. With different content creators receiving unique slides,Call of Duty 2020crates have hinted at its time period, possible maps, and more.

During its recent quarterly financial report, Activision executives implied thatCall of Duty 2020will be revealed throughCall of Duty: Warzone, but the real-world treasure hunt that fans of the series have been sent on is fun to watch all the same. A recent leak suggestsBlack Ops Cold Warwill be revealed inWarzone’s Gulag, but eager players will have to wait and see whether this comes to fruition.
