For all the fans waiting to see Tom Holland revive his role as the web-slinging hero inSpider-Man 4, the actor finally has an update, albeit not a very good one. Holland has confirmed that “meetings” for the much-awaited film had begun, with the actor involved in conversations already. However, they have been put on hold in solidarity with the striking Writers Guild of America members.
Conversations aboutSpider-Man 4began a few weeks after thesuccessfulSpider-Man: No Way Homehit theaters. Initially, there was a lot of doubt about Holland’s return. While Holland is expected to return as Peter Parker, the planning is now “on pause,” with no confirmation on when the team will return to the meeting room.

During the premiere of his new Apple TV Plus show,The Crowded Room, Holland revealed they “have been having meetings” forSpider-Man 4when speaking withVariety. “We’ve put the meetings on pause in solidarity with the writers. There’s been multiple conversations had, but at this point it’s very, very early stages,” he confirmed. While it might be too early for Holland to reveal more, it is good news for fans to receive confirmation that negotiations for the film are already underway, which could potentially meanHolland’s return as Spider-Manin the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
To hear Holland’s confirmation should not come as a major surprise to fans, as Marvel bossKevin Feige had previously spoken aboutSpider-Man 4and its story. According to Feige, the story is “partially mapped out” and waiting for the writers to put “pen to paper now.” In a previous interview, producer Amy Pascal also confirmed that they will “get started” on the film when the writers strike is over.
Holland has appeared in several MCU films as Spider-Man, including his standalone trilogy that featured 2017’sSpider-Man: Homecoming, 2019’sSpider-Man: Far From Home, and 2021’sSpider-Man: No Way Home. He also played an integral role inCaptain America: Civil War,Avengers: Infinity War, andAvengers: Endgame. His latest run as the web-slinging hero collided with other popular variants of Spider-Manplayed by Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, who fans have seen in otherSpider-Manfranchises. Following the end of the MCU’s trilogy, it seemed like Holland was done playing the hero, but there is now hope for fans to see him return.
