The world ofThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntis full of pitfalls, and a Witcher has to know how to deal with each of them. As such, having a vast knowledge of all the creatures that inhabit the lands is essential for a Witcher to fulfill his duties and contracts.

Insectoids are larger and more dangerous insects that inhabit almost all the forested areas of Velen, Novigrad, Skellige, and Toussaint inThe Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. They might not be as difficult to destroy as other creatures, but they still need some precautions not to be overwhelmed while trying to defeat them.

Arachas

Arachas are large Insectoids with a distinctly large abdomen. They are highly venomous, and their variants can be found in both desert and swamp regions in Velen,Novigrad, and Skellige. Arachas have powerful pincers, a maw filled with razor-sharp teeth and venom glands packed with deadly toxins. Once native of the far south, these creatures migrated north over decades, adjusting to new climate and temperatures.

They can look like a part of the forest undergrowth, which can be highly deadly when hunting. Arachas usually fight by spitting venom at their prey and then trying to grab them with their prehensile feelers to reach their crushing pincers. Arachas are vulnerable to Golden Oriole and Insectoid oil. Igni can immobilize them,Quennullifies the damage from one attack, Yrden slows them down, and Axii keeps them pacified; however, Aard isn’t going to knock them down because of their size.

arachnomorph

Arachnomorphs

Arachnomorphs are large Insectoid creatures resembling spiders that appear inThe Witcher 3expansionsHearts of StoneandBlood and Wine. They prefer to inhabit deep, damp caves or isolated swamps. Arachnomorphs are post-conjunction cousins of common spiders, and only a few Witchers can slay them. The more aggressive and dangerous kind known as Arachnomorph Colossi is even worse, as it can devour an entire ox in seconds.

Against these creatures, Yrden allows players to slow them,Ignisets them alight, and Aard and Axii are helpful to disable the spider. Quen also blocks webbing hurled at the Witcher, and the Arachnomorphs are susceptible to Insectoid oil.

armored archas

Armored Arachas

Armored Arachas are Insectoids and a subspecies of Arachas. Their only weakness is their soft, sensitive abdomen. While the common type hides it under hollow tree stumps, Armored Arachas have a thick carapace covering all the more delicate parts of their bodies.

An Armored Arachas is a true behemoth. It uses its enormous mass to knock over and trample its victims, then devours their crushed remains. Like all Arachas, Armored Arachas are highly venomous, and thus Golden Oriole should be consumed before fighting them. Once provoked, Arachas of both varieties quickly attempt to close the gap between them and their prey, either by skittering across the ground, leaping at the victim, or by spitting a sticky secretion and dragging the victim to them. In close combat, Arachas are brutal and fast, thoughYrdencan slow them down.

endrega drones

Endrega Drones

Endrega Drones are gluttonous creatures whose only aim in life is to eat, fight, and reproduce.Yet when venturing outside their nests, these aggressive hunters attack any and every creature they come across.

Endrega Drones live to fertilize the queen; they pass the time leading to that moment protecting the colony’s territory. Weaker ones die in these battles, while the largest and strongest survive. These individuals' genes are passed down to the next generation of Endragas while they are killed and given to the hive to feed the newborns during the long winter.

endrega-warrior-1

Drones are easy to identify thanks to their distinctive, cone-shaped abdomens. They can attack from a distance with poisoned quills or with their pincers. They are vulnerable to Golden Oriole and Insectoid oil.

Endrega Warriors

Endrega Warriors are as vicious as Endrega Drones, with the added danger in the form of their poison barbed tail. An Endrega Warrior’s main weapon is its long tail, which is tipped with a club-like growth and spiked with venomous quills.

Endrega Warriors also use their mass and strength as a weapon by charging their opponents in an attempt to knock them over. They do not bleed profusely but recoil in great pain when hit with a blade coated in Insectoid oil;the sign Axiiis the most effective one against these creatures.

endrega worker

Endrega Workers

Endrega Workers are the most numerous, and thus the most frequently encountered, caste of Endrega. Their duty lies in building nests and cocoons, acquiring food, and caring for eggs and larvae within the colony.

Endrega Workers travel in groups of half-dozen or more members, and they usually inhabitVelenand Skellige. They move slowly, but when attacking, they are capable of covering the distance to their victim in a blink of an eye. Like all other species, Endrega Workers are highly venomous; their bite is toxic and can also spew acid to significant effect from a distance of several paces. Like all Insectoids, they do not suffer from bleeding but are vulnerable to Insectoid oil and Golden Oriole.

gian centipedes

Giant Centipedes

Giant Centipedes are enormous, insect-like monsters that can be found in many places inThe Witcher 3’s world, but are particularly common in the lands of Toussaint. Geralt will face some of them during theWine Wars: Belgaard quest.

Giant Centipedes' bodies are almost entirely covered with hard chitinous armor, and sticking out from under this carapace are rows of hooked limbs. They are able to burrow into the ground, only to appear back on the surface in another place. Once they aim a prey, they will circle it trying to get close enough to deliver a blow. Giant Centipedes attack with their powerful mandibles, but they also have glands that spit acid.

harrisi

When attacked with a weapon, they usually evade the strike and immediately reply with their own counter-attack. The best way to deal with these giant creatures is the sign Yrden, as it paralyzes them.

Harrisi

Harrisi is a powerful venomous Arachas who has her home in an abandoned mine located near the battlefront between Nilfgaard and Redania. Geralt will face this particular subspecies of Arachas during the Missing Brother contract. Like other members of its species, Harrisi is dangerous both at close and long-distance. It is vulnerable to the Igni, Aard, and Yrden signs. Golden Oriole, Insectoid oil, andthe Northern Wind bombsare also effective.

Kikimores

Kikimores are Insectoid monster species that live underground and in swamps. They appear inThe Witcher 3expansionBlood and Wine. Their main ability is that whenever their attacks hit, Geralt’s toxicity increases since they are venomous. Kikimores almost always attack in large numbers, and they are susceptible to Insectoid oil and the sign Igni.

Pale Widows

Pale Widows are a particular type of Giant Centipedes that live in underground lairs. Like the more common Giant Centipedes, their bodies are covered in hard chitinous armor with numerous hooked limbs sticking out from underneath. Players can face them in theBlood and Wineexpansion.

Some scholars raise these creatures in laboratory conditions for the properties of their albumen, which is essential to make mutagenic potions. Pale Widows aren’t particularly strong, but they are very good at moving around the area and making quick attacks. They are vulnerable to the sign Quen, Yrden, and Insectoid oil.

Sandcrabs

Sandcrabs are Insectoids encountered in the Ddiddiwedht Desert. They have a well-developed carapace, two pairs of legs, and a pair of wings, even though it is not notable if they are able to fly. Sandcrabs are only dangerous in large quantities, but players must watch them because they can jump out of the ground. They are susceptible to Dancing Star, Northern Wind bombs, and Grapeshot.

The Witcher 3: Wild Huntis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
