The Sims 5will eventually hit store shelves, though fans are probably in for a long wait. There’s not much info onThe Sims 5apart from a codename and the fact that the title is very early in development. Still, expectations are high, and there’s a lot that Maxis can do to keep fans happy.
One card in Maxis' hand is bringing back some of the interesting premade families from earlierSimsgames. A few,like the Specter family introduced inThe Sims 2, have appeared in multiple games and become franchise staples. Others haven’t been seen since their first appearance, but could still have much to offer the new game. The latter group includesThe Sims 3’s Dueling Singers household, whose dreams of stardom and romantic love triangle deserve a resolution inThe Sims 5.

The Sims 3’s Dueling Singers
Maxis introduced the Dueling Singers Household as part ofThe Sims 3’s Showtime expansion. Many Sims come to the LA-inspired Starlight Shores in search of fame and fortune, as is the case with the residents of 656 Vista Boulevard. The Dueling Singers household included Sadie Mason, her boyfriend Rich Richmond, and her friend Mercedes May. However, while Sadie had invited Mercedes into her house to help the latter’s music career, the two singers are now in a tug of war over Rich’s heart.
Sadie comes from a family of singers and has a natural talent for music. This comes across in her Natural Born Performer and Virtuoso Traits, which helped Sadie become a Local Phenomenon - the fifth and middle rank ofThe Sims 3: Showtime’s Singer Career. Her othertraits include Family-Oriented, Good, and Friendly, with the latter two probably explaining why she offered to help get her friend Mercedes' music career off the ground.
However, Mercedes turned out to be a stereotypical backstabbing best friend. She was happy to leach off Sadie’s career, and is now out to steal Mercedes' fans and her boyfriend. Hertraits inThe Sims 3were Evil, Mean Spirited, Diva, Flirty, and Schmoozer. She’s only a Talented Amateur, the third step of the Singer Career, but will do whatever it takes to advance her status, steal Sadie’s spotlight, and run her former friend out of her own house.
Athletic, Charismatic, Lucky, and a Great Kisser, it’s not too surprising Rich would end up the prize in a romantic contest. He’s also a Hopeless Romantic who loves his girlfriend and never misses any of her shows. However, he is not immune to Mercedes' charms and starts the game romantically interested in her, soThe Sims 3: Showtimesets the stage for drama as this love triangle plays out.
Resolving the Singers' Duel in The Sims 5
While Maxis could simplyport this tumultuous trio intoThe Sims 5, the new game would be a great time to give some closure to this romantic conflict. Perhaps the new game features a Richmond family where Sadie cast out the homewrecker and finally tied the knot with Rich. Alternatively, Mercedes might have won out while her former friend plots revenge.
Then again, Sadie might be better off without her housemates' drama.The Sims 5version of Sadie could start the game having ditched Rich in favor of a more faithful significant other, or decided that she’s perfectly happy being a solo act for a while. It would also be nice comeuppance for Mercedes to wind up stuck in a loveless marriage to Rich while her rival climbs the charts. Alternatively, there could be a way all three of them end up happyinThe Sims 5, though that might feel anticlimactic.
