Everything New In A Nutshell
Spa Venue and Activities
In previous installments ofThe Simsfranchise, such asThe Sims 2andThe Sims 3, the Spa was a “rabbit hole” destination where Sims would disappear for a set amount of time to relieve stress or get tattoos. Visiting the Spa would grant Sims powerful moodlets upon their return. The concept of the Spa remains similar inThe Sims 4, but with a more immersive and interactive experience. InThe Sims 4, a Spa is assigned to a lot and requires specific objects to be present for it to function properly. Instead of being tied to a new world, players can find three pre-made spas already installed in their Gallery Library, which they can place in any world they choose or customize to their liking.
Spas inThe Sims 4are a haven for Sims to indulge in a variety of self-care activities. From massages and mud baths to manicures and pedicures, Sims can relax and unwind in a luxurious setting. Saunas have also made a comeback inSpa Day, offering players an opportunity to add a new relaxation feature to their Sims' lots. They can be placed on any type of lot and serve as a great way for Sims to reduce stress and unwind. However, players should also be aware of thenew way to kill their Sims- death by sauna. Additionally, saunas can now also serve as a new WooHoo location for Sims.

One of the standout features ofSpa Dayis the option for Sims to practice yoga and meditation alone or with a group. Players can lead their Sims in solo yoga sessions or join a class with a Spa NPC (Yoga Instructor). Participating in these activities allows Sims to gain Wellness skill and improve their overall health. While it is possible to purchase these items for the home lot, the assigned Spa NPCs and serene atmosphere create a much more immersive and tranquil experience for Sims looking to prioritize their well-being. Furthermore, Sims with high enough Wellness skill can also lead and host Yoga Classes in these lots, which can be an interesting way toearn some money.
Wellness Skill
Spa Dayintroduces the Wellness skill, which is an essential component for Sims looking to reduce stress levels. Sims can build this skill by performing various wellness activities such as practicing yoga, meditating, and receiving massages. As Sims level up their Wellness skill, they gain access to more complex yoga poses and unlock new interactions with spa activities.
The higher the Wellness skill, the more massage options become available, including the Fertility Massage, which can be beneficial for players attempting challenges like the100 Babies Challenge. Additionally, Sims with high Wellness skills can engage in meaningful interactions with other Sims, and unlock different kinds of detox recipes, further enhancing the overall gameplay experience.

The Wellness skill offers some unique and exciting features for Sims who invest in it. As Sims build this skill, they gain access to exclusive interactions when meditating, which become increasingly impressive at higher levels. At level 5, Sims will levitate while meditating, adding a mystical and intriguing aspect to their relaxation. At level 7, Sims can teleport to thehidden areaof Sylvan Glade in Oasis Springs, which is filled with rare collectibles, fish, and frogs to discover.
Finally, at level 10, Sims can teleport anywhere in the lot or surrounding area, which is a convenient and quick way to get around without having to walk. These abilities are typically only available tooccult Sims, making the Wellness skill a valuable investment for any player looking to add a unique dimension to their Sim’s life. Furthermore, the Wellness skill is easy to learn and requires a low investment, making it a worthwhile pursuit for any player.

High Maintenance Trait
The High Maintenance trait is a recent addition to Spa Day, added to the game pack in 2021.Sims with this traitcan be quite quirky and challenging to care for, as they require daily Spa Day activities to keep them happy. Throughout the day, they may experience random negative moodlets, such as the uncomfortable “Butt Hurt” moodlet from sitting somewhere and similarly “Poseidon’s Kiss” for using the toilet, or the Irrational Hatred For the Sun moodlet, which makes them angry for no reason. These moodlets can be reversed by performing wellness activities, which will change them into the “Catharsis” happy moodlet.

Trait Type
High Maintenance
These Sims require extra work to keep in good condition. Their problems sometimes appear trivial, and may even appear out of the blue. These struggles can be remedied through mindful habits, which puts them in a state of catharsis
Emotional
While it can be fun for players to explore the random mood shifts of their Sims, these moodlets can make it difficult to maintain high job performance for high-maintenance Sims who work long hours. Overall, the High Maintenance trait adds a unique and challenging aspect to gameplay that can make for a more engaging and dynamic experience.
Wellness Aspirations
As part of the comprehensive rework patch, Spa Day introduces a new branch of aspirations called Wellness, which features three new aspirations: Self-Care Specialist, Zen Guru, and Inner Peace. Choosing any of these aspirations grants Sims the bonus trait “Free Spa Membership”, which encourages them to visit the spa more frequently and engage in various spa activities. Although these aspirations consist of only one step, they can be challenging and appear daunting at first glance, requiring a considerable effort to complete.
Self-Care Specialist
The Self-care specialist aspiration is designed for Sims who want to turn their passion for wellness activities like massage, yoga, meditation, and manicures into a lucrative career. It requires some effort to complete, with a minimum of 10 days needed to finish the Gain Self-Care Notoriety step. However, Sims can work on every step simultaneously to speed up the process. The steps for completing this aspiration include earning 5000 Simoleons from Spa activities, providing lessons or wellness services such as massages, promoting their services to attract more clients, and building a loyal customer base.
Players are not required to raise their Wellness skill very high for this aspiration, but as they focus on the tasks, it will certainly be developed. With determination and hard work, Sims can turn their love for self-care into a profitable business. Players should be aware that some players experience bugs with certain activities not counting towards the goals, and generally, focusing on yoga activities is recommended as it will be the most lucrative one.

Upon completing the Self-care Specialist aspiration, Sims will receive the “Self-Care Expertise” reward trait. This trait provides a significant advantage by allowing Sims to earn up to three times more money for each wellness service they provide. In fact, teaching yoga classes can become a lucrative career option, potentially surpassing even thehighest-paying traditional careers. For instance, a single yoga class can earn a Sim 330 Simoleons per student, while providing a massage can net them 460 Simoleons.
Inner Peace
The Inner Peace Aspiration aims to achieve true harmony with wellness. To complete this aspiration, players must ensure that their Sims' needs are met, and that they remain happy. While the first three tasks are quick and easy, involving activities such as meditation, yoga, or relaxation, the last step, Maintaining Harmony, requires Sims to not experience negative emotions for 48 hours straight - which can be quite challenging.
Although wellness activities can certainly help, it is advisable to focus on this aspiration during Sims' days off or vacation to have more control while minimizing stress. If players have theIsland Livingexpansion pack, they can go to relaxing locations like Sulani to engage in fun and relaxing activities. Being on lots with Lot traits that provide positive moodlets is also an effective way to ensure that negative situations do not override the overall positive emotion of Sims. Additionally, having traits such as Cheerful is also recommended.

Upon successfully completing the Inner Peace aspiration, Sims will be rewarded with the Clear Perspective trait. This trait enables Sims to use the “Have a Moment of Clarity” self-interaction, granting them immunity to negative emotions for three hours. This feature can come in handy during a crisis or when a negative event occurs, as players can utilize the interaction to override any negative emotions.
Zen Guru
The Zen Guru aspiration requires Sims to become a positive influence in the world of wellness by mastering wellness and training others to do the same. This aspiration is more challenging to complete than the other two, as it requires a lot of interaction with others and raising the Wellness skill to the maximum level. Sims must comfort others with specific wellness interactions, lead yoga or meditation lessons, and give massages.
In addition, two tasks require a Wellness skill level of 10: “Share Detox Tea” which becomes available after purchasing the Tea Magic Personal Brewer, and “Become a Master Wellness Teacher” which involves leading a Meditation or Yoga class with another Sim who also has level 10 in Wellness. It can be difficult to find other Sims with this skill level, so it is recommended to have a household member focus on their wellness skill to make it easier to complete this aspiration.

Upon successfully finishing the Zen Guru aspiration, Sims will be rewarded with the Calming Aura trait. With this trait, they can use the “Emanate Calming Aura” self-interaction which causes the Sim to emit a calming blue-green-purplish light. When the Sim is emanating this aura, it has a calming effect on nearby Sims, making them feel happy and boosting their positive emotions. It is important to note that the aura will only last for three hours and can only be used once every 24 hours. This reward can be especially useful for Sims with careers or aspirations that require them to interact with others frequently.
