Godzilla vs. Kongintroduced a new type of Titan monster called Mechagodzilla—a man-made version of Godzilla that is more powerful, created to help protect cities from Godzilla. The introduction of the character seems like only the beginning of a long line of movies within the MonsterVerse that will feature robotic Titans. There is no way a cool character like Mechagodzilla will only be utilized in one film, especially if it can lead to a series about robot giants like those inGundam.
In the 2021Godzilla vs. Kongmovie, the Apex secret underground facility created Mechagodzilla as a way of defending the cities against Godzilla and fighting other Titans. The Apex corporation has been doing tests on Mechagodzilla against other Titan giants, and not only does this draw Godzilla’s attention because he wants to destroy it, but it also uses anenormous amount of energy to operate. The Apex CEO, Walter Simmons, wants to harness the energy of Hallow Earth so that Mechagodzilla will have no energy limitations. Mechagodzilla is controlled telepathically, but a small amount of liquid caused it to malfunction and gain freewill. But Godzilla and Kong team up and are able to defeat the Mechagodzilla.

There have been no confirmations yet on what will be thenext film in the MonsterVerse franchise, but there has been an announcement about an upcoming live-actionGundammovie that will be released on Netflix. This is very telling news about what kind of future the MonsterVerse will have. It seems likely that there will be a ‘giant robot versus giant monster’ storyline somewhere down the road.Gundamis a Japanese franchise about giant robots (mecha) and mobile suits, sometimes seen in militaristic settings. There are reports that Jordan Vogt-Roberts will be directing theGundamlive-action film. He also directedKong: Skull Island—another entry in the MonsterVerse.
At the end ofGodzilla vs. Kong, the two Titans who had been battling one another the majority of the film finally looked at each other in sort of a respectful understanding way afterthey teamed up to defeatthe Mechagodzilla. If for some reason the Apex corporation has a bigger storyline and decides to make more giant robots for military purposes, it seems likely that the robots will do what robots do in any movie they are in and break free from control, resulting in Godzilla and Kong needing to team up once more to defeat the evil robots.

In a 1968 film titledKing Kong Escapes, the Mechani-Kong was introduced in order to do a job too dangerous for humans. Though the visual effects don’t stand up to those inGodzilla vs. Kong, it would be interesting to see a movie with Godzilla and King Kong having to team up to fight against their robotic counterparts. There area lot of different types of giant robotscreated in media. There is plenty of anime, manga, and movie source material to look through to create a giant robot storyline within the MonsterVerse.
The filmPacific Rimco-written and directed by Guillermo del Toro features a storyline not too different from a Monster vs. Robot titans crossover that could happen within the MonsterVerse. InPacific Rim, giant sea monstersemerge from the ocean ready to attack, so the people in that universe must create giant mechas to fight back. Perhaps the monsters that Apex captured and experimented with while testing the Mechagodzilla will attack people and Apex will have to create more giant mecha versions of monsters in order to fight back.
Or maybe, similar to how Dr. Who inKing Kong Escapesused Mechani-Kong to extract useful materials in a place too dangerous for humans, perhaps Apex will create more mechas in order to get resources and energy from Hollow Earth. But because Kong now rules the land there, he may have a problem with this that will cause an epic battle sequence with giant robots. And who knows, maybeGodzilla will help Kong outwith all those giant robots invading his new habitat. It would be cool to get to see Mechagodzilla again, but even if it did not make another appearance, there are plenty of other mechas that would be just as interesting and badass looking.
Giant robot films used to be more popular, but in recent years mechas have not made much of an appearance (at least not live-action) on the big screen. The Mechagodzilla inGodzilla vs. Kongmay have laid out path for the MonsterVerse to follow to incorporate a MechaVerse storyline into that universe. The fight scene between the Mechagodzilla and King Kong with Godzilla was visually very exciting to watch in theaters, so another series of films that focus more on militarized, giant robots would be big, summerblockbuster hits among fans of actionand sci-fi movies.
