The Boysshowrunner Eric Kripke held back no punches when condemning misogynistic fans of the Amazon Prime Video original series after cast member Erin Moriarty revealed she had been the target of harassment online. The actress highlighted the dehumanizing effect of the harassment via her social media account, which prompted Kripke to make it clear that fans of that nature are not welcome.

Moriarty brought the online harassment to light when she reposted an article titled “#IStandWithStarlight?: The Betrayal of Erin Moriarty by The Boys Fans” to her Instagram account. The Boysstar highlighted the paralyzing effect of the abuse, which included unkind and sexualized taunts at her character. Moriarty’s Starlight in the series faces similar issues rooted in misogyny, but the veil separating reality and fiction does not distance Moriarty from senseless hate and criticism, which prompted Kripke’s response onTwitter.

Kripke made it incredibly clear where the show stands on his own social media account, where he urges kindness while equally telling viewers riddled with toxicity to stop watching the show. “Hi trolls!” expressed Kripke. “One, this is literally the opposite of the show’s f*** message. Two, you’re causing pain to real people with real feelings. Be kind.” Kripke explicitly ended his tweet, essentially telling toxic fans ofAmazon Prime’sThe Boysto go away. “Don’t watch ‘The Boys,’ we don’t want you.”

Kripke is not the only member of the Amazon Prime Video series to come to Moriarty’s defense, but his words made it clear that the egregious behavior thrown at Moriarty will not be tolerated or welcomed. Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie Campbell in the series, also spoke out against the harassment, encouraging Moriarty to keep “shining bright” to combat the misogynistic hate and criticism. Antony Starr, who playsthe emblematic character Homelander, also spoke out in support of his co-star.

The Amazon Prime Video original series has been a ground-breaking success since its 2019 arrival, and it has continued to grow tremendously as it rapidly heads into its fourth season.Moriarty’s Starlight is an integral pieceto the puzzle that gives the series its unique cinematic feel, making the criticism toward her character all the more confusing and trivial. Kripke will undoubtedly find a strategic way to push the misogyny into the spotlight once the series returns, so viewers can see how egregious the behavior is, hopefully forcing those guilty of the taunts to look in the mirror and change for the better.
