AsAnno 1800celebrates its fourth year, fans of the franchise are wondering where Ubisoft will take the concept next. This RTS series has taken players throughout historyin a unique blend of strategy, simulation, and city-building gameplay.Anno 1800may be the most advanced and successful entry to date, but the next chapter must build upon these strong foundations.
TheAnnoseries is constantly exploring new periods, and this has created a vast and exciting franchise. Players got to explore the early 1700s inAnno 1701, they were taken to the future withAnno 2205and2070, they got to take a trip to the medieval age inAnno 1404,and were able to experience the industrial revolution inAnno 1800. It seems like the franchise has hit some of the most iconic eras in history, but there are still so many periods waiting to be explored.

Ancient Anno
Annohas played around with major periods of history, but it has never explored the ancient world. Most games have put eras of technological advancement or expansion at the forefront, but the ancient era could give the next game a whole new feel. Players could control some of the earliest humans, help them construct the first civilizations, and force them to battle over the resources of the world. They could watch as the world slowly discovers tools, sea travel, and everything that they need to survive. While Ubisoft would have to take some creative liberties to ensure that it is fun, it could lead to one of the most unique entries in the franchise.
Anno 1776
TheAnnoseries has explored colonization and the New World, but it has not really delved into American history. The nextAnnogame could put players in control of colonies in the New World and task them with keeping it all together. They could deal with new mechanics like outright rebellion, and the gameplay could be more landlocked. Instead of featuring multiple islands, players would be tasked with expanding across one large continentlikeSid Meier’s Civilization.A lot of the core gameplay mechanics would have to be altered to fit this setting, but it could be well worth the effort.
World War Anno
Annohas recreated the past and the future, but it has never taken a trip to the 1900s. Specifically, players have not been able tomanage a civilization during either World War.AnAnnogame during the World Wars could be a lot more war focused and see the players do everything they can to survive in a dangerous world. Civilizations would be more prone to war, players would have to focus on building up armies, there would be many new technologies to play with, and expansion would matter even more. War has never been the strong suit of theAnnofranchise, but a game built around one of the most turbulent times in modern history could help that feature shine.
Fantasy Anno
TheAnnoseries has gone the sci-fi routea couple of times, and the next game should once again explore an out-of-this-world concept. Instead of taking a trip through Earth’s history, the next game could go to a completely different world altogether. It could explore a magical world of potential filled with fantastical creatures and mighty heroes. Going the fantasy route could lead to an incredibly unique experience that sees players battle against orcs and goblins as they attempt to stand the test of time. It would be a very different type ofAnnotitle, but it could be so much fun; especially if Ubisoft is able to get the rights toLord of the RingsorGame of Thrones.
Anno 1800is available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
