Tatiana Maslany just joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the seriesShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which follows the story of attorney Jennifer Walters after she gains the sameHulkabilities that her cousin, Bruce Banner, wields. However, the role was one Maslany wasn’t initially reluctant to accept.

She-Hulkfollows Jennifer Walters as she learns how to juggle herShe-Hulksuperhero abilities and her day job. During an interview withElle, Maslany opened up about whyShe-Hulkwas a project she was hesitant to take on at first and how those reasons ultimately became why she accepted the role.

Maslany discussed her anxiety about entering the MCU, telling the magazine, “I had always been wary of entering this universe or doing anything of this scale.” When recalling the first Zoom meeting she did about the project, Maslany said, “There’s a part of me that always feels a bit more comfortable in a smaller piece. Just something that I can guarantee will be focused on character, guarantee will be collaborative.” However, Maslany had felt very drawn to Jessica Gao’s script, which depicted Walters as a down-to-earth, hesitant but funny heroine. This had parallels to Maslany’s real-life situation of also being hesitant to become a superhero as well, making the role of herShe-Hulkcharacter even rawer for her and its audience.

Maslany is a superhero in her own way by taking on the major role, and she definitely isn’t alone in being weary about joining a media giant like Marvel Studios. Past Marvel alumni like Chris Evans, who portrayed Steve Rogers/Captain America in the past saga of the MCU, had a similar experience. Evans, who also appeared in Fox’sThe Fantastic Fourfilms, has made it known he was very anxious about taking on his superhero role, and it even took a conversation withIron Manactor Robert Downey Jr. to convince him to partake in the MCU franchise.

WithShe-Hulkfinally available for streaming on Disney Plus, Maslany is finally getting to see her hard work - which came along with a lot of nerves - come to life before her eyes. With onlytwo episodes ofShe-Hulkavailableat the moment, the series has so far been well received. However, as it continues to have new episodes released, opinions will continue to swirl as fans and critics weigh in onShe-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
