To say a lot is riding onSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguewould be an understatement. Not only will it be Rocksteady Studios' first game since2016’sBatman: Arkham VR, but it also strives to continue the Arkhamverse set by the studio’s acclaimedBatman: Arkhamtitles. If that wasn’t enough, the planned release also has to appeal to DC fans as well as those who love multiplayer action-adventure games.

But even thoughSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguewas announced back in August 2020, there has been little to no information on how the game will actually play. There has been a gameplay trailer in the past, but this was so entwined with cutscenes and pre-rendered footage that it can be difficult to discern which parts are truly playable and which aren’t. Considering the current release date for the game is just a few months away, Rocksteady Studios should start putting out videos and demos that will let the public know howSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguewill function.

When Rocksteady Studios first announcedSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguealmost 3 years ago, it stated that the game would be an action-adventure title. Players could go it alone inthe open world of Metropolisbut the core gameplay loop looks like it will favor 4-player cooperative play above all else. Four members of the Suicide Squad will be available to control: Harley Quinn, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, and Deadshot. These villains-turned-heroes will have their own unique playstyles and abilities that can increase the game’s replay value and give players a sense of individuality.

The officialKill the Justice Leaguegameplay trailer, titled “Flash and Burn”, gives some information on how each of these characters will play. Harley Quinn uses a grappling hook to get around, plus joke weapons like her oversized mallet and confetti bombs to wallop enemies. King Shark looks like he will play similarly to a modern version of The Hulk from the 2005 gameThe Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, as he climbs up walls with his claws and hits hard with his massive frame. Even with all this raw power, King Shark isn’t above taking out his minigun to mow down foes in a heartbeat.

Aside from conventional weaponry like pistols and shotguns,Captain Boomeranguses his iconic boomerangs to dish out the pain. They can also teleport Captain Boomerang around Metropolis, alongside technology that seems to give him temporary super speed, likely inspired by his nemesis, the Flash. Finally, Deadshot propels himself with his jetpack and draws upon his vast arsenal of firearms to dispose of Brainiac’s minions. There is quite a lot to unpack in that single gameplay trailer, but due to its age, it can be hard to tell what will make it into the finished game.

Kill the Justice League Needs More Gameplay Footage Before Release

With only the one gameplay trailer to go off on, fans still don’t know a lot aboutSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’s gameplay. Their last real look was over a year ago, meaning things have probably changed throughout the game’s development. No one knows how the title will compare to other cooperative multiplayer games, such as if it will bea loot-based game likeDestiny 2. These questions can be answered in many ways, such as by releasing more authentic gameplay trailers, free playable demos for the public, or letting streamers and influencers showcase the game. Any of these options can let fans know there is something worthwhile at the end of the long wait.

This works in Rocksteady Studios' favor as well. ShouldSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice League’s gameplay prove promising based on initial user feedback, it would incentivize others to pre-order the game. The studio should know by now thatthe audience forSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leagueis getting tired of seeing pre-rendered trailersfor the game. In the end, showing more gameplay forSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguewould be a win-win situation, both for Rocksteady Studios and the players excited for the game.
