After years of waiting, fans finally have a better understanding of whatSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueactually is, and what they can come to expect from the game. During yesterday’s PlayStation State of Play, Rocksteady pulled back the curtain on all aspects ofSuicide Squad, from its gameplay, to its story, to finally confirming thatSuicide Squaduses live-service elements. While the backlash to this news is completely understandable, it might not necessarily be all bad.

Along with confirming the existence of a battle pass, Rocksteady also said that it wouldcontinue supportingSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueafter its launch, with a variety of new content. One of the most exciting statements Rocksteady made during this announcement was that it would be adding more playable characters to the game after launch, and there are a few DC villains that already stick out as potential candidates.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueis coming right out of the gate with four great picks for playable protagonists. There’s fan-favorite characterHarley Quinn, the underrated Flash villain Captain Boomerang, the newly popular King Shark, and the suave assassin Deadshot. Though the gameplay revealed so far makes each of these characters look a little same-y, there’s no doubt that they’re all good picks for the game, each bringing a unique personality to the narrative. For future playable characters, it would make sense that Rocksteady wants to continue this trend of bringing fairly well-known villains to the forefront of the action, and there are two characters that fit the bill perfectly.

First up is Deathstroke. Debuting in comics in 1980, Deathstroke is one of the more versatile villains in the DC universe, being used across different comic runs as the villain to a variety of heroes, fromthe Teen Titans, to Batman, to Green Arrow. Deathstroke lands in that perfect middle-ground between niche and popular, where the fans that recognize the character love him, but he’s still relatively unknown for general audiences. That’s exactly the type of characterSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueshould be looking for.

Another character that fits this niche is Peacemaker. Despite debuting all the way back in 1966 in a Charlton comic, Peacemaker has only just started gaining traction in the mainstream DC fandom, with John Cena’s surprisingly excellent portrayal in bothThe Suicide SquadandPeacemakercementing the character as a potential new favorite. Along with offering distinct personalities from the rest of the team, both Deathstroke and Peacemaker would also add some interesting combat mechanics, with Deathstroke wielding a sword for more close-quarters gameplay, and Peacemaker focusing on high-damage ranged options.

Alternatively,Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguecould choose a handful of characters that are largely completely unknown. Bronze Tiger would be a perfect fit, for instance. Appearing in just about every version of the team, Bronze Tiger has been a notable omission in the recentSuicide Squadmovies, and his proficiency with martial arts would make him really stand out inSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s current roster. Along the same lines, Nightshade is also a frequent member of the Suicide Squad, coming over from Charlton comics to DC after theCrisis on Infinite Earthscomic event. Nightshade wields Shadow Magic, giving her an interesting gameplay angle that sets her apart completely from the rest of the team.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguelaunches on Jun 11, 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
