This guide will focus on the pickpocketing ability inStarfield. It will show players how they can successfully pickpocket in the game, and it’ll break down the Theft Skill tree.
How to Pickpocket
Besides their companions, players can pickpocket just about anyone inStarfield.Players must unlock the Theft Skill before anything else, as this is the skill that gives the ability to pickpocket.
Once gamers have unlocked pickpocketing, they’ll be able to see what other characters have in their pockets byapproaching them from behind while crouching and selecting the Pickpocket option. Characters won’t be alarmed as long as the player doesn’t steal anything - there’s no problem in checking what’s inside their pockets.

Players can choose any item that they would like andselect the Steal option to grab it.The percentage displayed beside the item indicates the chances that the player has to successfully steal it. If there’s a “detected” warning above, the success rate decreases significantly.
Players should invest in theStealth Skillto make it easier for them to remain undetected while pickpocketing.

Theft Skill Ranks
Players can unlock the Theft Skill in the first row of theSocial Skill Tree. As gamers increase their character’s level inStarfield, they’ll be able to gradually rank up their Theft Skill by successfully pickpocketing their targets.
Pickpocketing and stealing are considered illegal acts in the Settled System, so gamers will have to face justice if they’re caught red-handed. If they’re caught, there is a chance that they’ll be wanted by the authorities, which might result in the player getting a bounty on their head or being arrested. The better the player’s Theft Skill, the less likely they’ll be to get caught while pickpocketing.
