Like any other bachelor/bachelorette, you have the option to date Sam after you’ve seen his Eight Heart Event. If you want to go another step, then you’re able to marry him once you reach Ten Hearts. The following guide has been revamped to include information from the 1.6 update including best choices for Sam’s Heart Events.

Sam is a lively and active villager, who moves around a lot. His schedule varies depending on the season and the amount of Hearts you have with Penny and Sam himself. This can sometimes make it challenging to track him down. You’ll likely find him playing guitar inside his bedroom or wandering around Town.

How to Increase Friendship
You can increase Friendship points with Sam by giving him giftstwice a week.Giving Sam a gift on his birthday (Summer 17) has eight timesthe effect on Friendship points. It’s recommended to give Sam a “Loved” Gift on his birthday (example: pizza), but a “Liked” Gift works, too. You’ll want to avoid giving him a gift that hedislikesorhates.

If you have 4 hearts with Sam by the time ofthe Flower Dance (Spring 24), you can ask him to dance with you. This will increase your friendship with him by one heart. If you don’t ask Sam or if you don’t have enough hearts, he’ll dance with Penny instead.

Sometimes when you speak to Sam, you’ll be prompted to give an answer. Depending on what you say, you can eithergain Friendship Points or lose them. Here are the questions with Friendship Points:

How to Get Sam’s Heart Events

Sam’s Heart Events are quite easy to trigger, as most of them take place inside his house. Your responses during most of these events have no effect on Friendship with Sam, except for the Four Heart Event.

Three Heart Event:
Between 7:00am and 3:00pm, visit the beach on a sunny day in any season except winter.
Enter town between 12:00pm and 4:00pm when it’snotraining.
Eight Heart Event:
Sam will show up at the farmhouse between 6:00am - 8:00am. You will then need to enter the Bus Stop at 4:00pm.
Ten Heart Event:
Enter the town between 8:00pm and midnight after receiving a letter from Sam.
* Ten Heart Event (Group)
Give a Bouquet to every bachelor, see their Ten Heart Event, then enter the Saloon.
- The Group Ten Heart Event only occurs if you’ve given a Bouquet to every bachelor and have seen their respective Ten Heart Events. If you don’t have a Rabbit’s Foot in your inventory, then all the bachelors (including Sam) will give you the “cold shoulder” for a week. During this time, you cannot give them gifts, and they will refuse to speak to you.

How to Get the Bouquet & Mermaid’s Pendant
Aromantic relationshipwith Sam begins after getting aneight-heart friendship. To date Sam, you need to give him a Bouquet (sold at Pierre’s for200g). Sam will happily accept and his status in the Socials tab changes to “boyfriend”.
After reaching aten-heart friendshipwith Sam, it’spossible to marry him. You can propose to Sam using a special necklace known asthe Mermaid’s Pendant.The Old Mariner, usually situated by the tidal pools on the Beach during rainy days, sells this pendant for5000g.If you haven’t done so already, you’ll need 300 Wood to repair the bridge in order to reach the Old Mariner. For Sam’s Fourteen Heart Event, you will also need to upgrade the farmhousetwice.
Once you’re married to Sam, hisschedule will change. He will stay on the farm for most of the week, but he leaves on Mondays and Fridays to visit his family and play at the saloon respectively. He’ll also leave for Calico Desert if he works as a vendor for the Desert Festival.
