The developers forStar Wars: Battlefront 2at DICE have revealed more free content coming to the game in short order: battles set in the Age of Rebellion, right around the time ofA New Hope. The update comes with new Supremacy maps allowing players to experience more iconic locations inStar Wars: Battlefront 2, including Scarif and Death Star II.
DICE’s announcement comes right before the release of another content update, and that one makes beloved droid companion BB-8 a playable hero in the game. The dev team has been committed to supplying its player base with free content well into 2020–which must be a relief for players, afterBattlefront 2’s initialloot box controversythat the game’s launch is probably still best-known for.

The first ofBattlefront 2’s upcoming, Scarif, represents a whole new planet being made available for gameplay. It’ll begin as a co-op location when the update launches, and then eventually become a Supremacy map; the Scarif location was well-known and well-loved inEA’s previousBattlefronttitle. In addition, Capital Supremacy will be renamed to just Supremacy, as DICE is aiming to “encompass all eras” of theStar Warssaga–bringing the Age of Rebellion to the game changes things, as original trilogy variant battles will be fought “exclusively on the ground.” Not every map will head to a capital ship anymore, and to name one example, DICE referenced the massive shield that surrounds Scarif, explaining that moving between ground locations and capital ships could become pretty unrealistic for gameplay.
DICE has promised more details on the new Age of Rebellion content in February, and fans won’t have to wait long for it even then: the actual update itself will be coming sometime that month as well. In the meantime,Battlefront 2’s previously delayed BB update will have to tide fans over once it arrives on February 3; the update was originally supposed to come this week, but luckily the setback wasn’t too big. In the update, both BB-8 and its evil BB-9E counterpart to the game, though BB-8 is designed to be an offensive hero while BB-9E more of a support. And if that’s not enough, there’s always anadorable Baby Yoda modto keep things interesting.
Considering everything in the works for the game currently (as well as itsrecently launchedRise of Skywalkercontent), it seems likeDICE is successfully savingBattlefield 2from its disastrous launch and putting all of its microtransactions missteps in the past. All in all, an impressive feat in itself.
