Few franchises have the same power asStar Trek.The popularity of the show is reflected in the impressive library of spin-offs, and that’s just not the wealth of television shows that are intended to continue in the same spirit asThe Original Series.

Some of the more popular characters in theStar Trekuniverse, namely Picard, have recently been the subject of updated shows that focus on the adventures of a single individual. This is slightly different from the usual formula, which follows the crew of a ship or space station, as in the case ofDeep Space Nine. There are so many interesting characters fromStar Treklore that this could be a continuing trend. Here are a few more characters that could support their own spin-off series.
7Kathryn Janeway (Voyager)
Janeway didn’t appear inPicard, although everyone expected a cameo after Seven of Nine showed up. Her character is expected to make an appearance in the upcoming animated Paramount+ show,Star Trek: Prodigy.
It goes to show that fans like this character enough that they wantto hear something about either her adventuresafter returning from the Delta Quadrant or her rise through the academy and ranks to become a Captain. There’s enough material there for at least a few seasons of a spin-off series.
6Christine Chapel (Star Trek TOS)
More commonly known as Nurse Chapel, Christine was a minor character inTOSwho played a pivotal role in many episodes, either in a professional capacity or as part of the general drama. She even had a couple of her own stories, and in a show that only lasted for 78 episodes, that means she was popular enough to carry a few more. “What Are Little Girls Made Of?” focused on Christine’s former fiancée and his experiments with artificial intelligence. The role was portrayed by Majel Leigh Hudec (later Majel Barrett-Roddenberry), who also played Number One in the pilot episode and recurring character Lwaxana Troi inStar Trek: The Next Generation,two other possible candidates for spin-off shows. Majel is also known as the First Lady ofStar Trek.
5Odo (Deep Space Nine)
The backstory for Odo was that he came from a race of shapeshifters, but fans didn’t get to see him change his form. This wasn’t because the stories didn’t use him enough, although some would argue that was the case, but more because of the limits of special effects at the time.This was network television in the 1990sand there was only so much the creators and producers could do.
A few decades later, however, there are streaming services and pay television networks that could easily handle a series about Odo. It could even be animated as opposed to using special effects. The series could either cover Odo’s backstory, his educational background, or how he ended up onDeep Space Nine.
4Spock (Star Trek TOS)
It seems hard to believe that Spock never got his own spin-off considering he could be the most popular character in theStar Trekuniverse.Discoveryhas a lot of great Spock-related lore, but he’s still a peripheral character, and the alternate reality presented in the J. J. Abrams movies count.

A retelling of a fewTOSepisodes from Spock’s point of view would be one way to have a spin-off series centering around the characters. His days serving under Captain Pike would also be interesting, and the upcoming seriesStar Trek: Strange New Worldspromises to cover at least some of that ground.
3Kess (Voyager)
Written out of the show during season 4, Kess was just getting interesting when she leftVoyager. The reason she disappeared was a mystery that was never really solved or explained,just something about her psychic powers, it almost seems like she was set up to be at least a recurring character.
Kess did appear one more time, but as a malevolent force, which brings up more questions than it solves. A whole series could have explored her psychic powers and what happened to them, along with what she did with those powers when she had them.
2Sylvia Tilly (Star Trek Discovery)
Tilly doesn’t seem like much more than comic relief at first. AsDiscoveryprogressed, however, it became apparent that she was more than what she seemed. Not only did she reveal a talent for cursing and being an evil Captain in the Mirror Universe, but every so often she would drop a hint about an unhappy childhood and an estranged mother.

Many characters onDiscoveryseemed to have a checkered past, which makes sense because redemption was a major theme of the plot; therefore, what mystery was Tilly hiding? A series about how she came to be working on the same ship as Michael Berman could be worth its own spin-off series.
1Charlene Masters (Star Trek TOS)
Not a lot of fans, even hardcore trekkers, even know who Charlene Masters is. She was one of the Engineers in the original Enterprise, second only to Scotty in authority and knowledge.
Charlene probably has a few better stories than Scotty or even Spock when it came to the most secret inner workings of the ship. Her experiences in Starfleet would also have been interesting, and perhaps she served under Captain Pike as well.
