Summary
Concept art of the Beetle, the villain speculated to be featured inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s DLC, was leaked and revealed the character’s updated appearance. A release date forMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s unconfirmed expansion has not been announced.
Developer Insomniac has suffered from a multitude of leaks in recent months. Most of them stemmed from a ransomware attack late last year when information likeSpider-Man 3’s villainsupposedly being the Green Goblin was revealed. However, Insomniac ran into another issue when a recent update caused a hidden developer menu to be shown to players, which heavily hinted that the Beetle would be a central character in aSpider-Man 2expansion. While fans continue to wait for official news on this possibility, they can already get a first look at Insomniac’s take on the villain.

Twitter userImmortal_Boss73 shared an imageof leaked concept art for the Beetle, with the user explaining that the art was included in a previous leak of Insomniac’s internal files. The newest version of the Beetle pays homage to previous ones by maintaining its overall bug-like appearance with wings but also updates it by giving the suit a sleek, modernized look with purple and blue-green colors. The suit is full of intricate detail, and its wings appear to be made with some sort of futuristic paneling. Before, Insomniac had earned praise for its strong villain design, and it seems like that trend will continue with the Beetle.
The Beetle As Spider-Man 2’s Potential DLC Villain
The previously mentioned leak involving a developer menu also hinted thatSpider-Man 2’s Beetle will be Janice Lincoln, Tombstone’s daughter. This lines up with the comics, in which Janice is the most recent character to take up the Beetle’s mantle. However, it should be noted that the information regardingSpider-Man 2DLC stems from leaks and Insomniac has not officially confirmed its plans for it. But if true, the expansion would presumably include new missions, enemies, and more.
Previous leaks also revealedInsomniac’s next games, which includeVenom,Wolverine,Spider-Man 3,Ratchet & Clank, andX-Men, to be released in that order from 2025 to 2030. One of PlayStation’s most prized first-party developers certainly seems to have a full plate, but again, this information stems from leaks and is always subject to change.

Insomniac also had amultiplayerSpider-Mangamein the works at one point. A leaked trailer suggested the game would have allowed Spider-heroes from various universes to join together to battle against Marvel enemies. However, the game was apparently canceled long before the leak ever made its way onto the internet.
