Seeing Sonic transform into his glittering golden form as he utilizes the power of the Chaos Emeralds is a spectacular sight to behold. After the challenges of navigating each level and learning all the skills the games teach, players know their greatest match is ahead in the form of the final boss. Now comes the greatest test of strength.

With a wide range of different final bosses in Sonic, it’s fair to say that somearen’t that popular among the fanbase. Others, however, have lived on in memory as some of the most amazing, rewarding, and exhilarating battles ever to grace console screens.
10Final Weapon (Sonic 3 and Knuckles)
FromSonic 3onwards, Super Sonic has mostly taken action at the games’ endings to defeat the final boss. This final boss inSonic 3 and Knucklesis actually exclusive to Super or Hyper Sonic. He would only go to be more vital from here on out in future games.

8Dark Queen (Sonic and the Black Knight)
The first female boss fought by Sonic, Dark Queen Merlina wants her world to become everlasting but by attempting this is causing its destruction. Sonic refuses to let her world last forever at the expense of its inhabitants and attacks her. He transforms into Excalibur Sonic and the final fight commences to the creepy, dark music of Merlina’s themeWith Me.
Set in a dark dimension, Sonic must block her sword attacks from her four arms as the player builds up enough Soul Gauge power to slash back at her. Once defeated her plot takes a unique turn, as she reverts to her normal self whom Sonic helpsto redeem.
7Ultimate Gemerl (Sonic Advance 3)
The final game in theAdvancetrilogy for Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance sees a unique final boss encounter. Gemerl, the main antagonist, goes completely berserk due to his proximity to the Chaos Emeralds, which he then uses to transform into Ultimate Gemerl. The crazy robot can only be brought down by Super Sonic, and Eggman! What treachery!
The player must avoid Gemerl’s beam attacks and negotiate using both Sonic and Eggman’s Egg Mobile to fire energy beams at Gemerl. What’s more, halfway through the battle Gemerl gets even crazier and wildly spins as he flails his robotic “arms.” This is truly memorable since the boss is so powerful due to being totally out of control, forcing the bitter rivals to team up as it’s the only way to stop him.
6Perfect Chaos (Sonic Adventure)
It was a massive undertaking to ensure the first fully 3D Sonic game’s final boss was as spectacular as the Dreamcast could enable it to be. The result? It, combined with the legendaryOpen Your Hearttheme blaring in the background, was jaw-dropping and the boss fight remains iconic to this day.

With Station Square flooded, and the monster set to wreak havoc, it falls to Super Sonic to pacify its rage. A unique move sees Sonic gliding on the water to reach Chaos. 5Death Egg Robot (Sonic the Hedgehog 2)
The Sega Genesis’Sonic 2is a notably difficult game, and the final boss really tests the player’s mettle. There are no friends to help, even no Rings to collect. This is Sonic on his own against Eggman’s giant Death Egg Robot.
Players must be very alert, as they steer Sonic away from the giant mecha’s lock-on. If it starts to flash it will come crashing down, trying to squash the little blue hedgehog. Knowing how to stay out of its way is only half the struggle and this is a battle that requires absolutely spot-on attacks. Players must aim Sonic perfectly at the robot’s casing. Even a slight misjudgment will land Sonic straight onto its spiked arms! A very iconic boss for those who love a challenge, there is certainly no room for error.
4Finalhazard (Sonic Adventure 2)
With Space Colony ARK hurtling towards Earth and the Biolizard fused to it, it’s going to take more than one Super Hedgehog to stop this catastrophe! In a real gaming treat, players control both Super Sonic and Super Shadow. With the fight set to the best of Crush 40’s songsLive and Learn, the finale to the last Sonic game for the Dreamcast was truly epic.

It’s all down to the two hedgehogs to aim for the Finalhazard’s weak point under a time limit, which adds to the overall tension. The screen even turns an eerie crimson after three minutes if Finalhazard is still alive. This is a truly great end to this fan-favorite game and even today lives up to the praise from the time.
3Perfect Dark Gaia (Sonic Unleashed)
Super Sonic isn’t in this fight alone. Tag-teaming with close companion Chip, aka Light Gaia, the duo repels the ancient monster and saves the planet from its destruction. This is a fight against one of the most intense and horrendous-looking bosses in Sonic.
With stunning visuals, a lengthy multi-tiered boss fight begins, and each part is thrilling in its way. Players control Chip inside the Gaia Colossus as he distracts the beast in an action-packed punching session. Then Super Sonic blasts towards the monster and penetrates its very eyes.
2Nega-Wisp Armor (Sonic Colors/Colors Ultimate)
A very tense atmosphere surrounds this boss fight. Eggman’s Interstellar Amusement Park is exploding, very quickly. As Sonic and Tails prepare to leave the park Eggman makes his last stand, forcing Sonic into battle against his Nega-Wisp robot, which utilizes various Color powers.
This fan-favorite boss encounter sees Sonic blasting down Terminal Velocity’s orbital elevator dodging the flurry of attacks from the robot, which even combines Wisp powersin the Wii version. Players must quick-step, dodge, and hurtle attacks until it’s defeated. Combined with the orchestral rendition ofColors’themeReach for the Stars, it’s a truly epic experience. Then Sonic must escape a black hole engulfing the theme park.
1Solaris (Sonic the Hedgehog 2006)
Not one, not two, but three Super Hedgehogs are needed to stop the series’ most powerful boss. Despite a generally negative attitude towards this game, players have to admit the final fight is truly an epic one, especially Solaris’Second Phasewhen an orchestral rendition ofHis Worldstarts.
Since Solaris exists throughout all of time and is seeking to destroy time itself, players control Sonic, Shadow, and Silver each in their Super formsin the past, present, and future. Each character fights in a unique way, adding to the gripping and thrilling experience. It’s challenging but highly rewarding, especially after traversing all the glitches to get to this point!
