Sonic Superstarsallows up to four players to platform their way through its levels playing as Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Amy. A fifth character, Trip the Sungazer, can also be unlocked for use in all game modes eventually.
Trip the Sungazer is a new character created forSonic Superstarsand designed by Naoto Ohshima and Takashi Izuka. She is the first Sonic character created personally by Naoto Ohshima since their work on Knuckles Chaotix for the Sega 32X. Trip begins the game as an antagonist, working with Fang the Hunter and Doctor Eggman (somewhat reluctantly.)
How to Unlock Trip the Sungazer
Before players can choose Trip as a playable characterthey will need to complete the entire main storyand defeat the incredibly tricky final boss in the Egg Fortress Zone. After the boss is beaten and the credits have rolled, players will be able to choose Trip in the character select, along with having access to Trip’s Story.
Trip’s Story is a harder story mode that stars Trip as the sole protagonist, taking place after the main story and having her face off against Fang and some rogue Eggrobos as they cause even more trouble. The levels have been adjusted for increased difficulty while also encouraging the use of Trip’s unique abilities.
Trip’s Gameplay
When playing as Trip players have access to her double jump and rolling powers. The former behaves similarly to Amy’s double jump but lacks the hammer for bouncing on spiked or electrified enemies. When holding the button after a double jump Trip turns into a spiked wheel that can stick to walls and ceilings. After sticking to a wall or ceiling Trip can roll along that surface, allowing her to easily reach areas that would be out of reach to other characters.
Trip has a few extra abilities that are accessed via the Chaos Emeralds.The Extra Emerald allows her to throw fireballs as a ranged attack while collecting all seven allows access to her Super Form. Trip’s Super Form allows her to turn into a Dragon, gaining the ability to fly and breathe a stream of fire. While on the ground holding the jump button will allow Trip to take off and fly. Once in the air Trip can be moved freely using the direction buttons or control stick. Holding the jump button while in the air will cause her to breathe fire.
