One of Bandai Namco’s latest games is last year’sScarlet Nexus, which is deeply rooted in Japanese culture while incorporating various cyberpunk sci-fi elements. While most ofthe plot threads withinScarlet Nexuswere tied together by the end, there is still some room for a follow-up. While the publisher hasn’t announced plans for a sequel, Game Director Kenji Anabuki believes that there is potential for another game.
WithScarlet Nexusbeing a brand-new IP for Bandai Namco, the fact it launched to both critical and commercial success has helped it stand out. Anabuki commented on the impact thatScarlet Nexushad when brought to Xbox Game Passin an interview with Inverse. He stated that the service gaveScarlet Nexusa boost in recognition and was a big factor in increased sales of the game and its DLC. With this in mind, Anabuki shared some of his ideas he had for a future game.

There were many things that Anabuki listed that he wished toimprove on for aScarlet Nexussequel. One of these things was the game’s cutscenes, where he’d wish to enhance the quality of the comic book-like presentation they had, while keeping them unique. Another aspect that he would want to explore would be the usage ofScarlet Nexus' superpowers, and how a potential sequel could benefit from it.
Anabuki goes further into ideas about aScarlet Nexussequel, specifically the characters' psionic abilities. The superpowers were strictly regulated to only be used in battles, to which he wanted to utilize them in areas outside it. “The world and settings of the story could potentially be created to suit an even more mature audience; by exploring themes like the dangers of having or using superpowers,” says Anabuki.
In regard to the story of thepossible sequel ofScarlet Nexus, Anabuki mentions that it could take direction from the original game, the anime, or do something entirely different. He also stated that due to the cross-gen nature of the game, he wishes that the sequel could also be supported on all platforms available too. Anabuki closed out the interview saying that he was thankful that the game ended up being well-received as it did. He mentions that he keeps up to date with the fanbase, sharing what fans have created on social media stating, “I hope to keep hearing from you all in the future. Your voices build the future for theScarlet NexusIP.”
