Last November, Sony released the PlayStation 5 that ushered console gamers to the new generation of gaming. Apart from stock shortages and some minor glitches, the launch of the PS5 has mostly been a success, which is not surprising given Sony’s wide player base. However, the introduction of new hardware also meant that Sony is now pulling some support away from older consoles, specifically the PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. Of course, this could be an issue for some players, especially since the consoles mentioned earlier are considered homes for some of the biggest video game franchises, includingResident Evil.

For 25 years, theResident Evilvideo game franchise pioneered the survival horror genreand produced some of the most iconic video game characters of all time. Of course, given the franchise’s extensive history, there areResident Evilgames that can only be bought digitally on the PlayStation Stores of the PS3, PSP, and PS Vita. With the closure of those stores just around the corner, here are all theResident Evilgames that PlayStation players won’t be able to purchase digitally in the future.

Resident Evil Games on the PS3, PSP, and PS Vita Stores

As expected, the list ofResident Evilgames that would no longer be available to purchase digitally on the PlayStation Store includes the first three games in the franchise. Originally released for the PlayStation,Resident Evil Director’s Cut, Resident Evil 2, andResident Evil 3are currently available on the PS3 and PS Vita PlayStation Store. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that these games will be ported to the PS4 and PS5 PlayStation Store, so players interested in these classicResident Eviltitles should purchase them now while they are still available. Alternatively, all threeResident Evilgames have all been remade by Capcom, and these newer versions are available on the PS4 PlayStation Store.

Next up isResident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, a spin-off game that offers a hypothetical what-if scenario of the Raccoon City incident inResident Evil 2 and 3.Operation Raccoon Citywas first released in 2012 andreceived a lukewarm reception from fans. Last on this list isResident Evil: The Umbrella ChroniclesandThe Darkside Chronicles, which are rail shooting video games that revolve around the events of several mainlineResident Evilgames from the first up untilResident Evil 4. It is worth noting that whileResident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, The Umbrella Chronicles, andThe Darkside Chronicleswill no longer be available on the PlayStation Store soon, all three games can still be played via PS Now.

What To Do Before PS3, PSP, and PS Vita Stores Shut Down

The only thing that PlayStation players can do to be able to play all the games mentioned above even after the store shuts down is to purchase them beforehand. As per Sony, the PlayStation Store for PS3 and PS Vita will close its doors on August 07, 2025. Lastly, the PS Vita Store will close a month and a half later, on July 25, 2025. The good thing is Sony promised that all games purchased on said stores before the shutdownwill remain available and can be re-downloaded.

However, new purchases will no longer be possible after the aforementioned dates, which is why players who wish to play any of theResident Evilgames listed above should plan and purchase them immediately while they are still available.
