While the upcoming remake ofResident Evil 4will be a modern retelling of the original, Capcom is implementing changes to keep fans on their toes, which includes bringing back enemies cut from the 2005 release. Helping todefine the survival horror genre, the firstResident Evilinstallment had a huge impact on the industry, paving the way for other titles such asSilent Hill, which also helped shift the dynamics of what was possible in a scary game. While it’s already pretty hyped up, theResident Evil 4remake won’t have much competition, what with delays ofStar Wars Jedi: Survivorand Frictional’sAmnesia: The Bunkerbeing pushed back, leaving March free for Capcom to stretch its metaphorical legs. However, given that the remake is already one of the most anticipated games of 2023, it’s unlikely to disappear into obscurity no matter what other releases are due around the same period. In the meantime, there have been further developments on what fans can expect from the game.RELATED:New Resident Evil 4 Remake Screenshots EmergeAs reported by The Gamer, Twitter user and known leaker AestheticGamer1 noticed that the remake ofResident Evil 4will be introducing some enemies that seem to have been based on scrapped content from the originalRE4. This information comes from Game Informer’s recent coverage of the game in which a female Zealot and one antagonist called the “Minitour” were revealed, which AestheticGamer1 says are realizations of enemies that didn’t make it into the 2005 release. The Twitter user goes on to mention a few more that were cut from the original game and theorizes on which may make an appearance in the remake.
One such example is theHook Man from an early build ofResident Evil 4. A lot of fans of the series are already aware of this enemy, who was more of a spectral being that would have had the ability to emerge from paintings to attack Leon. The fact that they were ghostly gave this early iteration of the game more of a paranormal vibe than what fans were treated to in the final release. Unfortunately, there’s no certainty that Hook Man will be in the remake, but fans can always hope.
With this version ofResident Evil 4getting rid of QTEs, adding in side quests, and adding some story surprises, Capcom is evidently doing all it can to not just bring the 18-year-old survival horror game back to life, but to make it feel fresh. With the success of theRE2andRE3remakes, it’s almost certain that this next remake will be just as well received, especially given that the originalRE4is considered one of the best in the series.
Resident Evil 4releases on March 24 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
