Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apartis set to launch later this week, and it will be taking the franchise in some bold new directions. Thanks to some dimension-hopping shenanigans,Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apartwill be introducing a slew of new characters to the game, with the most notable being new playable hero Rivet. But while there will be many fresh faces for fans to look forward to inRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart, the game will also have some familiar faces as well.
Previously, it was teased that thenew Phantom character inRatchet & Clank: Rift Apartis actually Skidd McMarx, and now it seems as though that speculation has been proven correct. Insomniac Games released three new character portraits for some of Ratchet and Clank’s allies in the newRift Apartgame, all of whom are members of the Resistance against Dr. Nefarious. And this includes the “Phantom” character, who is almost certainly an alternate-dimension version of Skidd McMarx.

DiehardRatchet & Clankfans will recognize Skidd McMarx as the famous professional hoverboard racer from the originalRatchet & Clankgame. McMarx would go on to have a more prominent role inRatchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal, where he would join the Captain Qwark-led Q-Force in theirfight against Dr. Nefarious. The Rebellion may be analogous to the Q-Force, so it makes sense that the alternate version of McMarx has found himself in a similar situation.
The last time thatRatchet & Clankplayers see McMarx is at the premiere of theSecret Agent Clankmovie at the end ofUp Your Arsenal. There were some scant references to McMarx made in future installments of the series, but he wouldn’t appear again until the2016Ratchet & Clankre-imagining on PS4. McMarx’s story was a little different in that game, though it must be stressed that the events are not technically canon since the whole game is a retelling from the perspective of Captain Qwark.
Besides McMarx, the newRatchet & Clank: Rift Apartcharacter portraits released by Insomniac Games also include a couple of other characters.Ratchet & Clankfans can get a good look atnew playable hero Rivet, as well as an unknown, bulky pink alien creature of some kind that is apparently a part of the Resistance. WithRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s release date merely days away, more information on this character will come to light soon.
In the meantime, it will be interesting to see what other olderRatchet & Clankcharacters make it intoRift Apart.Longtime recurring character Captain Qwarkhasn’t even been confirmed at this point, so fans may have to wait until they get their hands on the game to find out more.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apartlaunches June 11, exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
