Summary
Ghost of Tsushimahas been brought back into the spotlight, as the game has finally launched on PC. Developer Sucker Punch’s action adventure title brought both gaming and history together into one great experience, withGhost of Tsushimataking place during the first Mongol invasion of Japan. There has yet to be any official confirmation of a secondGhost of Tsushimain the works, but any such game has a lot to live up to with its main villain.
The main antagonist of the first game was Khotun Khan, who was directly inspired by real-life Mongol leader Kublai Khan. As the wait forGhost of Tsushima 2confirmationcontinues, there are questions as to who will star as the game’s antagonist, and the answer may be found in looking at Japan’s second Mongol invasion.

Ghost of Tsushima 2 Taking Inspiration From the Second Mongol Invasion
Although there hasn’t been anything officially set in stone, it’s likely that the events ofthe second Mongol invasionwill be the main source of inspiration for a potential sequel. Not only would this be a natural progression for the story after the events ofGhost of Tsushima, but it also allows a fearsome new antagonist to make his way to the titular island.
Ghost of Tsushima 2’s Antagonist
The most logical choice forGhost of Tsushima 2’s antagonist would be a leader based on the Mongol general Arakhan. Named as the supreme commander of the fleet, Arakhan is the most prominent name associated with the second Mongol invasion when it comes to invading fleets. Therefore, it would only make sense forGhost of Tsushima 2’s next main villain to be directly inspired by the historical general. This also paves the way forGhost of Tsushima 2to introduce mainland Japan.
The second Mongol invasion made its way to mainland Japan after commanders Hong Dagu and Kim Bang-gyeong defied orders and set out to conquer the mainland by themselves. Landing in Hakata Bay and Nagato Province, both fleets were eventually pushed back by the Japanese. There’s no tellingwhat directionGhost of Tsushima 2will choose, but it’s likely that the sequel will want to expand its scope to feel even bigger than the last game, and bringing some of the fighting to mainland Japan would be a great place to start.
Potential for a Ghost of Tsushima Sequel
Now thatGhost of Tsushimahas come to PC, there is a whole new audience to jump into the game’s great action and story. When the game first launched in 2020,Ghost of Tsushimabrought something truly special with its blend of history and incredible gameplay mechanics. With a resurgence in the game’s popularity thanks to the PC port, a second game will hopefully be announced by Sucker Punch soon. Seven years passed between the first and second Mongol invasion; seeing how a sequel handles a time jump would be quite compelling, if that’s the route Sucker Punch chooses to go.
There are somehigh expectations forGhost of Tsushima 2. At this point, a sequel feels almost inevitable, and if that’s the case, then the next main antagonist’s inspiration should be pulled directly out of the history books, just like Khotun Khan.Ghost of Tsushimaoffers a fascinating take on Japanese history, and this needs to become a franchise tradition.
