Pokemon SwordandShield’s Crown Tundra DLC adding longevity to the SwitchPokemongames through the addition of Dynamax Adventures, a game mode that lets players team up to find Legendary Pokemon from previous generations through a strategic, rental-based gauntlet. WhileDynamax Adventures do a lot right, it can be somewhat monotonous to go through four Dynamax battles over and over to catch specific Legendaries.
While grinding out some Dynamax Adventures on stream, pixel artist TAHK0 “stumbled on” a little-known mechanic inSwordandShieldwhich has apparently been there since release. By shaking his detached Joy-Cons while waiting for all players to select their attacks, TAHK0’s in-game character begins doing the cheer animation otherwise reserved for a special option players receive when their Pokemon has fainted in a Max Raid Battle.

While they test the mechanic multiple times to ensure it works (though one commenter on Twitter suggests it may only during online raids), it does not appear this motion control cheering applies any potential buffs to the player’s team like its fainted counterpart. Still, givenDynamax Adventures offer high shiny chanceseven for Legendary Pokemon, it may make for a fun distraction while players grind out each gauntlet.
Some commenters on social media have bristled at TAHK0 calling this a “brand new discovery” given the Easter egg has apparently been possible since day one, but many more seemingly had no idea. TAHK0 publicizing the feature on Twitter, where they have nearly 30,000 followers as of this writing, has led to a heightened awareness as other news sites such as Dexerto reported on the finding. They list their prior video game discoveries on Twitch, including being the “first to fly through aDragon’s Portal” inBreath of the Wild, as well as finding theSplatoon 2"Train Pass" Easter egg.
Though the Dynamax Adventure feature is the most time-consuming and replayable addition from The Crown Tundra expansion, fans can uncover numerous other Legendary Pokemon throughout the DLC area. The most striking narrative element isCalyrex, the King of Bountiful Harvests, whom players can reunite with one of its two trusty steeds.
While Dynamaxing has not been as popular as previous series gimmicks such as Mega Evolution, the fact that slight details such as motion control cheering have existed seemingly unbeknownst to so many people is one testament to how integral these raids are toSwordandShield. Dynamax Pokemon have bled into other forms ofPokemonmedia as well, such as the recent reveal thatTeam Rocket’s Meowth has a Gigantamax formin the anime.
