Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Tera Raid bosses are a good way to keep players engaged with the games even a year after their release, even if they are not exactly the endgame grind that fans expected after Gen 8’s Crown Tundra DLC.7-star Tera Raidsstill provide players with plenty of good rewards, including tons of Tera Shards, Ability Patches and Capsules, Bottle Caps, and more, but their biggest treasure is often the rare Pokemon they are associated with. Having starters from past generations as Tera Raid bosses is a good thing, but even better is to offer Legendaries or even Mythicals that are currently unavailable in Gen 9, and Game Freak has the perfect one for a new event.

Thebest Legendary Pokemonare usually those that make an impact on the competitive aspect too, rather than just the game’s main story, and currently, there are many great ones at the top ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s meta. Critters like Cresselia, Heatran, Chien-Pao, and even The Teal Mask’s Ogerpon are all solid picks, and while events based on some older Legendary Pokemon would be a good thing, Gen 9 games could pick one from the series' most recent mainline entry and hit the jackpot.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Should Use a Gen 8 Legendary as a Raid Boss

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Mew and Mewtwo eventwas a refreshing way of introducing 7-star Tera Raids in the games, making them both more challenging and more interesting than regular ones. There is no confirmation that more Legendary Tera Raids will happen, but it seems like a probable outcome even prior to The Indigo Disk’s release, which may or may not include a new way to get Legendary Pokemon outside of time-limited events orPokemon Hometransfers. If this is the case, there is one Gen 8 Pokemon that should come back as a Tera Raid boss.

Why Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Urshifu Should be the Next Tera Raid Boss

Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Urshifuhas been dominating the meta in Gen 9 for a while now, and there are various reasons why it would be a great candidate for a new Gen 9 Tera Raid event. Urshifu would be perfect as a 7-star Tera Raid boss because it could come with version exclusives, it’s one of the strongest Pokemon in VGC by a huge margin, and it would be quite hard to beat due to its mechanics. For starters, given that there are two different types of Urshifu that players could obtain in Gen 8 by choosing one over the other, the event could feature one forPokemon Scarletand the other forViolet.

This would make the event more interesting as a co-op activity online, while still allowing completionists to get at least one of them if not both, and do that completely solo - assuming one owns both versions of the games. Furthermore, given Urshifu’s presence inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s competitive meta, it only makes sense for players to have a way to get it other than through Gen 8.

Lastly, Urshifu as aTera Raid boss inPokemon Scarlet and Violetcould prove to be quite a challenge, following in the footsteps of Mewtwo. Both Single Strike Urshifu and Rapid Strike Urshifu have signature moves that are always critical hits, which could prove a tough theory-crafting step to overcome for those who want the perfect build to deal with the Pokemon. Shell Armor and Battle Armor prevent crits, but then the Pokemon with those Abilities would have to be able to defeat Urshifu with other means.
