Confirmed Ghost Type Pokemon

Going back to Generation 1, Gastly has been a constant inPokemonfans’ lives. Gastly is one of the few monsters able to be caught in the wild in each generation, andPokemon Scarlet and Violetwon’t break that tradition. As expected, itsevolutions Haunter and Gengarwill also be available as players level up their monsters.

Froslass will once again be making an appearance inScarlet and Violet. Introduced in Generation 4, this unique ice and ghost combination quickly grew in popularity.Froslass evolves from Snoruntwhen it is exposed to a Dawn Stone, but it remains to be seen if it can also be caught in the wild on its own like inPokemon Sword and Shield.

Misdreavus and Mismagius will both return to the latestPokemonentry as well. Similar to Froslass, Mismagius was also a new evolution introduced in Generation 4. Misdreavus is available in games as early asPokemon Gold and Silver, but Mismagius wasn’t available until two generations later. Misdreavus only evolves into Mismagius if exposed to a Dusk Stone, so fans wanting the evolved form will need to keep their eyes peeled for the stone.

The balloon monsters Drifloon and Drifblim have been also been confirmed forPokemon Scarlet and Violet. Both Pokemon are ghost/flying types, which gives them a few added strengths and weaknesses. However, their true value comes from their Aftermath ability, which causes the opponent to lose a quarter of its maximum HP if Drifloon or Drifblim faints as the result of a contact move. Aftermath is a valuable ability for taking down foes with high defense levels.

As an electric/ghost monster, Rotom is an even rarer type combination. Known as the plasma Pokemon, Rotom can inhabit and power many electric devices in thePokemonuniverse. Its base stats aren’t great, butRotom can change formsand give the player different moves depending on its appearance. Famously, Rotom also inhabited the protagonist’s Pokedex inPokemon Sun and Moon, guiding the player’s journey.

One of the most recent ghost-type Pokemon will be available inScarlet and Violetas well. Introduced inPokemon Sword and Shield, Sinistea is a particularly unique monster.Sinistea can only evolve into Polteageistwhen exposed to a Cracked Pot or Chipped Pot item, and its appearance varies depending on which one a player uses. If using a Cracked Pot, Polteageist takes its Phony Form, lacking a mark of authenticity. On the flip side, a Chipped Pot will give Polteageist its Antique Form containing the mark.

Leaked Ghost Type Pokemon

While these have yet to be confirmed by any official sources, there are plenty of exciting ghost types rumored to be included inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. To start, Mankey has been rumored to have a new final evolution after Primeape that is a powerful ghost and fighting type combination. Most likely, this will be similar to the alternative evolution for Froslass, where it will take a special item for Primeape to achieve its final form.

A viral leak recently detailed a newghost and steel type coin-shaped Pokemon. Since the Paldea region is based on Spain, the region’s history with piracy would lend itself to this theory as well. This could also hint toward a pirate-themed side quest in the game, which would bring a fun, new angle toPokemon.

Scarlet and Violet’s starter Pokemonmay be getting more interesting as well. The second and third evolutions of the starters have yet to be revealed, but the final form of Fuecoco could end up being a fire and ghost type, a combination that has been reserved for a few powerful monsters. Fuecoco looks sweet and harmless, but the third evolution should prove to be one of the strongest ghost-type Pokemon that fans have seen.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetrelease on November 18 on Nintendo Switch.
