After fans have longingly awaited remakes ofPokemon DiamondandPearl, they have finally arrived withPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearl. The love for Pokemon’s fourth-generation just keeps coming as the Sinnoh Region is being adapted into the Hisui Region in another title,Pokemon Legends: Arceus. In the latest Pokemon Presents, gamers got another look at what the game offers, including new Hisui-based creatures, and new dynamics for the series' battle system.
Pokemon Legends: Arceuswas announced on February 26th. Not many details were shown about the game beyond it taking place in the Sinnoh Region’s past, as well as hinting that the game would be open-world in nature.

With two trailers revealed to players, it’s clear thatLegendsis handling itself much differently compared to otherPokemontitles. Fans of the RPG series will need to adjust to a new method of combat. Battles in this game get handled in a new way, allowing Pokemon to move multiple times in different turn cycles, decided based on their stats and move set. If the critter’s move set and stats aren’t favorable strategically, two different move-sets called Agile Style and Strong Style allow the player to change speed and attack stats of different moves to better fit the situation.
Of course, with a newPokemongame comes new critters to catch.Legends: Arceusintroduces two new Pokemon on their own, Wyrdeer and Basculegion, evolved forms of Stantler and Basculin from previous Pokemon games. It also introduces two Regional forms featuring Braviary andGrowlithe. The Hisuian form of Braviary seems to be psychic-type, whereas the new regional Growlithe seems to be at least part rock-type.
There’s a lot for fans to be excited about regardingPokemon Legends: Arceus.It has promise to be a great way to spice upPokemon’s25-year-oldformula, if not set the stage for what’s to be expected from the series in the future. The open-world style of the title leads to many different opportunities, and these new combat styles and creatures have already been shown to bring the gameplay to new heights.
Fans will have to wait until either a demo releases or the game comes out to get a grip on the new combat styles, but learning how a newPokemoncombat style works could be fun for some players. The new battle system promises to be more dynamic than the usual rock-paper-scissors type dynamics, and how that goes over with fans remains to be seen.
