When it comes to newPokemongames, there are a few things fans have come to hope for and/or expect. For example, every Pokemon game has a simple bug type and bird Pokemon available early on, while some have dog or cat versions of Pokemon too. Many often hope for anew Eeveelution, though these are as rare as they come. One more common expectation is a new Pikachu clone, given how essentially all regions feature one, andPokemon Legends: Arceusmay have shed new light on these clones.
Specifically,Pikachu Clones are all the electric mouse Pokemonfound in various regions. These include the likes of Plusle and Minun (Gen 3), Pachirisu (Gen 4), Emolga (Gen 5), Dedenne (Gen 6), Togedemaru (Gen 7), Mimikyu (Gen 7), and Morpeko (Gen 8). Fans have called them Pikachu clones since their inception, and it seems Game Freak wants to take advantage of that going forward.

ThePokemon Legends: ArceusPokedex Entryfor Pachirisu, once all research tasks are complete, reads: “A species related to the Pikachu line. Though Pachirisu is a calm Pokémon, it still presents a danger should one touch its electrified tail or cheeks." Redditor PricklyBob recently highlighted the emphasis on the Pikachu line in this Pachirisu entry, adding that this essentially confirms that they are all biologically related.
This, again as PricklyBob and many commenters point out, has huge implications. From an evolution standpoint, it means that somehow these Pokemon are all descended from one Electric Mouse Pokemon. It’s unlikely to be Pikachu since its evolutions are Pichu and Raichu, and this is in terms of actual, eventual evolution and not the Pokemon evolution fans usually see. Many speculate that this could mean there’s a Legendary electric mouse Pokemon fans could meet eventually, if not in a futurePokemon Legendsgame orPokemonGen 9.
Of course, some also point out how this lore addition doesn’t really need to go anywhere, noting that these Pikachu clones exist for nostalgia or commercial purposes. That may very well be true, but at the same time, Game Freak connecting them in-game to one legendary Pokemon doesn’t sound far-fetched. Indeed, an electric mouse legendary Pokemon could serve both nostalgia and commercial purposes while expanding on the lore of the franchise, much likePokemon Legends: Arceushas.
Game Freak doesn’t have to, at the same time. This could be more of a throwaway line acknowledgingPikachu clonesthan a hint, but it seems safe to say that moving forward with the idea would likely be well-received.
