The tenth season ofPokemon GOis underway, and for the next week, trainers will get to participate in the second annual Festival of Colors event. We alreadyhave a guide that covers the event’s field research tasks, rewards, and other information, but there’s one part of the event that seems to be confusing some players.

The Collection Challenge for Festival of Colors tasks players with catching several Pokemon, like Koffing, Bruxish, and Krabby, but one of the tasks involvesevolving a Pokemon into a Mothim, and that Pokemon isBurmy.

How to Get Mothim in Pokemon GO

In order to clear the challenge for the event,Pokemon GOplayers will need to evolve a Burmy; however, what makes this difficult is that theBurmy in question will need to be a male. If players feed their female Burmy 50 Burmy Candy, it will evolve into Wormadam, and it will not count towards the collection challenge.

There’s no way to tell which gender a Burmy is before players catch it, so they’ll need to catch one and then check their storage box to verify. The sign will be to the right of the Pokemon’s name; the symbol with the circle and the line pointing down with another horizontal line through it is the female sign. The other one, as shown in the image with Axew, is the male sign.

Getting Burmy Candy in Pokemon GO

Luckily, there areplenty of Burmy to catchduring the Festival of Colors event, as all three types (Sandy, Plant, and Trash) have increased spawn rates until March 14, the last day of the festivities. And yes, Burmy can be shiny during the event too.

OncePokemon GOplayers get 50 Burmy Candy, they’ll be able to finally evolve it into a Mothim, if it’s male, of course. The easiest way to rack up Candy is totry and use Pinap Berries for every Burmy encounterand then transfer them to the professor if there are duplicates in storage.Placing Burmy as a Buddy Pokemonand then walking with it can also lead to more Candy for the Bug-type evolutionary line.
