Upon its release in 2016,Pokemon GOtook the gaming and mobile communities by storm. As an augmented reality (AR) game for mobile devices, it tasks players with going to real-world locations to discover and catch Pokemon. In addition, gamers can then train and evolve these Pokemon, along with travel to destinations known as Gyms and PokeStops. Since it launched,Pokemon Gohas accumulated over 632 million downloads and $5 billion in lifetime revenue.

To say the game has been a success is putting it lightly. While the mobile game might not be as popular as it was right after release, many players continue to log on regularly to catch more Pokemon in 2022. In addition, Niantic consistently releasesnew updates and events forPokemon GOthat keep the game interesting for many gamers and fans of the franchise. For example, it now includes around 700 Pokemon to collect, a big step up from the original 150 included back in 2016. Recently, one player evidenced the continuing popularity of the mobile game when they made a stunning revelation regarding how often they have been playing the game in recent days.

In a post on Reddit, a user known as lightguard23 made a shocking discovery while using their smartphone. After playing apparently countless hours ofPokemon GO, they had started to experience burn-in on their screen. This was evident in a picture posted on Reddit by the gamer. In the image, several items from the game’s HUD, such asthe Poke Balland Trainer icons, were still visible despite the app being minimized in the top left corner of the screen. “Am I playing too much?” lightguard23 comically asked.

It did not take long for numerous members ofthePokemon GOcommunityon Reddit to give their own answers to lightguard23’s question. With over 5,700 upvotes in only a day, many seemed to think that the Reddit user should continue to play the game if that is what they love doing. In addition, some found it amusing that the player decided to put black bars over their trainer and Pokemon icons. “Thank you for considering your Pidgeot’s privacy for this post,” AubreyBabas said on Reddit.

Interestingly, this is not the only noteworthy instance of someone experiencing burn-in on a gaming screen. Recently, a YouTuber known as WULFF DEN discovered thatburn-in could occur on the Nintendo Switch OLED. However, there is a catch; it requires over 3,000 hours for this to happen. With this in mind, players can continue to play the newestPokemongames on the hybrid console without worrying about the same burn-in that happened to lightguard23 on mobile.
