In an interview withDot Esportsat Pokemon GO Fest 2204, Steranka commented that he and his team talked about the lack of wild Pokemon after seeing a post on Reddit about the subject. Eventually, everyone concluded that constant Pokemon wild spawns were not in Niantic’s best interests. The director explains that instead, Niantic is thinking about how to improvePokemon GO’s collection mechanics and make it more exciting for players.

Steranka went on to talk about the challenge of keepingPokemon GOinteresting, noting that “to build a forever franchise you’re able to’t get stuck on content like that,” referring to Pokemon’s wild spawns. Although Niantic’s focus isn’t in this direction, he clarifies that this doesn’t mean that Pokemon wild spawns won’t be considered in the future. ThePokemon GOdirector comments that Niantic is looking for “natural opportunities” to add new Pokemon, regardless of the mechanics chosen. A recent example isNecrozma’sPokemon GOdebut, which brought its fusions with Lunala and Solgaleo into the game.
Although Michael Steranka’s comments may frustrate somePokemon GOplayers, they note the natural progression of the game. They highlight Niantic’s commitment to finding different ways to keepPokemon GOplayers engaged while continuing to expand its content. But despite this, Michael Steranka gave players hope about another aspect of the game, teasing the debut ofmore Galar Pokemon inPokemon GO.
