In the years sincePokemon GOlaunched a lot of Legendary creatures have been released in the game and taken their spots inthePoGOmetagame rankings. Although some Legendary creatures have become less relevant thanks to the plentiful options that are now available years into the game, Groudon has remained relevant in the PvE and PvP scene since its first appearance.
The Hoenn Celebration, which is currently raging on, offers trainers yet another chance tofind and catch Groudon. That’s an opportunity that not many players will want to pass up, considering how powerful the Legendary can be. to get the most of their Raid Passes and thoroughly defeat Groudon to earn an encounter, trainers are going to want to revisit their counter rosters and prepare for the bigPokemon GOlevel 5 Battle Raid ahead if time.

Although Groudon has appeared before and many players likely already have a saved counter roster, a lot has changed since the last time the big red monster was hatching from Legendary eggs at Pokemon Gyms in the mobile AR game. The release of new evolutions, additional move sets, andthe Mega Evolution featurehave brought a lot of new options to the table that have greatly altered the ideal counter roster for this Battle Raid boss. Groudon is a Ground-type (as the name implies) and will be best countered by powerful Water- and Grass-type Pokemon. There are some great options for players to select from, so trainers should take a careful look at the following list and figure out which lineup best aligns with their collection…
Roserade - Razor Leaf/Grass Knot
Charizard (Mega Y) - Fire Spin/Blast Burn
As always, keep in mind that the listed counters represent the absolute best options, but are certainly not the only choices. If any player is missing too many of these Pokemon to pull a supreme counter roster together, than defaulting to the best Water- and Grass- type Pokemon in their collection should still do the trick, assuming they are part of a decent-sized group andtaking advantage of some Friendship bonuses. Keep in mind that burning through some Rare Candy and TMs may be necessary in order to power up the right Pokemon and get the right move sets in place for this sort of battle.
As trainers continue working through these amazing Celebration events and enjoying the new era of the GO Beyond update as they count down to the next season, they may want to keep hunting downthe best Unova Pokemon in the gameif improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for morePokemon GOstrategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
