Persona 5fans are in for a new spin-off title thanks to an accidental leak from Atlus revealing the existence ofPersona 5 Tacticaalongside the remakePersona 3 Reload. It appears this is the title connected to the mysterious P5T domain that recently had fans theorizing a newPersona 5game was on the horizon. While this trailer is exciting for fans of the series looking forward to more Phantom Thieves content, it also hints at a possible departure for a major character present throughout the franchise that could have major implications forPersona 6.

As the title that has propelled the series into the main stream, it’s no surprise to seePersona 5receive so many spin-offs, includingPersona 5 StrikersandPersona 5: Dancing in Starlight. TheupcomingPersona 5 Tacticaseems to be charting the series into new territory with tactical RPG gameplay elements similar to franchises likeFire EmblemorXCOM. However, hidden within this trailer is evidence that the Velvet Room’s Igor is missing from the game, an absence that could set the precedent forPersona 6.

Persona 5 Tactica Could Suggest Igor Will Be Missing From Persona 6
As a staple of thePersonaseries since the first entry, Igor is one of the most important recurring characters players will encounter throughout the franchise. He is the servant of the enigmatic Philemon and the proprietor of the Velvet Room where the protagonists of the series use his powers tofuse Personas. Although Igor takes on the form of an oddly proportioned old man with a long nose and lanky limbs, he is an important ally in each entry of thePersonaseries and serves as a guide for holders of the Wild Card.
InPersona 5, Igor plays a somewhat different role, and in a late-game twist, turns out to be an imposter, as the god of control Yaldabaoth has assumed his identity and split his attendant Lavenza into two separate beings, Caroline and Justine. Following the defeat of Yaldabaoth, the real Igor returns and Lavenza’s two halves reunite to bring the Velvet Room back to its intended state.Persona 5 Royal’s addition of a third semesterallows players to interact with Igor and Lavenza in the Velvet Room as intended, but this doesn’t seem to last for future games.
Despite the true Igor returning to the Velvet Room at the end ofPersona 5, the spin-off titles set after the events of the original game don’t feature Igor in Velvet Room, relegating Persona fusion duties solely to Lavenza. Igor is missing from theVelvet Room inPersona 5 Strikers, and from what can be seen in the trailer forPersona 5 Tactica, it appears Lavenza is the one doing the fusing of Personas once again, suggesting Igor will be absent in this title as well. While this isn’t the first time Igor has been missing from the Velvet Room, having two games in a row without the proprietor may suggest Atlus is planning to phase him out of the series.
The Velvet Room has shifted its appearance and inhabitants throughout the series with Igor originally joined by Nameless and Belladonna in the originalPersona, and the Demon Painter joining them in thePersona 2duology. FromPersona 3onward, Igor has changed attendants with each entry, but never has Igor himself been removed from the Velvet Room entirely. It’s possible that his absence inPersona 5 StrikersandPersona 5 Tacticacould be due to the games being spin-offs, but the precedent it sets could either markIgor’s triumphant return inPersona 6, or his departure from the series as a whole.
Persona 5 Tacticareleases Aug 05, 2025 for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
